I'm kinda dumb on the radio side (never use radio, don't even have an antenna in my car). My HU manual doesn't mention anythig about US/European tuning system either. But here are a few threads that discuss the same thing.

Like you said, the Crutchfield thread doesn't really let us know whether the fix mentioned there works or not.
