Indeed... the only issue is when it comes to mud soiled footwear then carpet mats can get bloody mess while rubber mats can hold their own. I go running in the morning and if I do not use rubber mats then my carpets are a gonners!
PS: running -> dew -> add dust and loose soil -> dirty footwear
