In Sultan Batheri there is a KSRTC bus station.
There is a cheapo eatery there which gives hygienic authentic Kerala food. Its like a govt owned canteen
This information is 6 years old, I dunno how they are now.
Other options are Kalpeta in Waynad, if that comes on the way.
