Danuskodi is part of Gulf of Manner, a huge bay and waves hit strongly only on the Indian Ocean side, As per the Wikipedia:
"The Gulf of Mannar is a large shallow bay that is an arm of the Laccadive Sea in the Indian Ocean. It lies between the southeasternern tip of India and the west coast of Sri Lanka with widths between 160 and 200 (100 to 125 mi). A chain of low islands and reefs known as Rama's Bridge, also called Adam's Bridge, separates the Gulf of Mannar from the Palk Strait, which lies to the north between India and Sri Lanka. The gulf receives the Tambaraparani River from the coast of India and the Aruvi Aru from the coast of Sri Lanka."
