You can create new partitions within Vista, no need to buy partition magic.
Go to disk management, right click on your hard drive and choose "shrink volume" and reduce the size of the current partition. Then with the available free space, you can create new partitions. It will not take more than a minute and there is no need to reboot the computer!
You can also try freeware such as Parted Magic or Gparted etc.
