I think a misconception in this thread is the fact that blowouts are caused by the buildup of air pressure inside the tire.
IMO, it is the heat and constant flexing of tires with low pressure that causes the tire to fail and have a blowout. It has nothing to do with the heat increasing the air pressure in the tire, but instead the heat affecting the rubber and construction of the tire.
Think about it.
Fill 32psi, drive at 120km/h for an hour. Get out and immediately check your tire pressure. Its not gonna be anywhere near the maximum handleable pressure listed on the tire.
