Generally high end cars in other countries have run flat tyres. Due to this, the spare tyre is not of standard size but a smaller one which is just meant to take you to the nearest repair point. This saves space while packaging.

However Indian regulations do not acknowledge the advancement in tyre technology and hence require the manufacturer to provide a standard spare tyre. This takes up valuable space inside the vehicle and compromises on the packaging. I think BMW faced this issue while coming to India.
