1.8D was a good car with the same great handling that comes with the Ikon petrol. Good mileage as well, particularly on long trips - the down side is the cost of spares and the poor service. They do really rip you at the service center so much so that I am scared to buy a Ford any time soon!
The low end torque of the diesel and the poor brakes were a combination for slow speed shunts as well! Had my one major accident with the 1.8 when I rammed in to a truck that braked suddenly.
