That depends you know...now as Yamaha is trying to portray the R15 as a premium 150cc
Sporty bike I would say 6 gears does make sense.1stly the bike as most people claim is going to redline at 10500rpm which is pretty high indeed for a 150cc considering that none of the current stock of Indian (air-cooled) bikes dare to go beyond 8000-8500rpm mark. Hence, you'll have a huge powerband to play with so intelligent gearing ratios could give you that second's edge on the track.Further,at 10500rpm I think the 6th gear could behave like an
overdrive.Nevertheless it's a (again as per speculation)
4 valve setup so you should look at a
relaxed initial power curve at the compared to (conventional)
2 valve Indian bikes which have a
steeper initial power curve hence close gearing ratio at the lower end shall ensure that the bike is peppy throughout the rpm range...
