I think the deal will work very differently to the way most of you are looking at it. I don't think it will be a lift and shift to India, I actually envisage more of a partnership. I think:

- Defender will become more like the Toyota Land Crusier in production terms and will be made in India and Britain (it's iconic to Britain so I doubt TATA will dare lift and shift it as it could kill Land Rover in the UK).

- Models like the TATA Indica will be restyled as Rovers and made in Britain and India in medium term. Short term production may occur in India only. Rover will become TATA's European brand not TATA which sounds too much like Tatty in English.

- JLR will take control of TATA R&D to bring them up to Ford standards of build quality.

- Land Rover parts will filter down into TATA products like the Sumo.

- Jag will not enter the Indian car market for a decade at least.
