seat belts, airbags, ABS... thats is the order in which safety equipment must be fitted.. and bought.
just because every other manufacturer has been giving ABS at a lower equipment level than airbags does not make it 'correct'. cost-effective, but not 'correct'. if you are not convinced - do some reading up.

i would not judge Skoda as some clueless company to price it the way they have done. pricing is the crux of running a business and as a businessman i would always like to err on the side of pricing my product higher.
even if they price it low and don't back it up with a matching service/ownership experience it will have seriously negative impact on the brand perception which can be very hard to recover from (ex FIAT).
if the product is not VFM, it won't sell. as simple as that.
