i would not suggest mounting it on the gearshift - could be irritating.
better to stick with the steering wheel itself or else onto the dashboard area within very easy reach of the person who is driving
if one has to stretch to reach it, or take ones eyes off the road while fiddling with it, it becomes very dicey!
