Hell yes! Exactly the same reasons as Suman. Why should you dedicate 2 entire lanes for a section of traffic which only makes up 10-15% (optimistically) of the entire traffic volume?
And how many footbridges can you build?? Do we expect people to really walk an extra 400-500 metres just to cross the road?
And people who have not used the corridor should preferably not comment because you have to personally use the stretch at least once to gauge the size of the inconvenience and waste of time+effort!! Academic and theoretical arguments are pointless because the reality is something else!
