Agree here, there is no memory effect in Li-Ion, though the max charge levels are highest when you do slow charge.
Fast charging heats up the battery, So if you are buying 1/4th price chinese replacements you can have an exploding laptop.
Sometimes even with genuine batteries you get the exploding laptops due to lack of QC on part of battery makers.
