My other option is a 40" V Series which is 20k more. The 40" is about 6cm wider and 2 cm taller and Im not sure if it is really worth the 20k more. The brightness, contrast ratio and resolution are about the same in both models.

The U Series has something called CCFL whereas the V Series has a BRAVIA ENGINE / Live Colour Creation / 10-bit Panel. How much of a difference would that make? Is it worth the extra money?

It will be used for watching DVDs and regular tv through Tata Sky.
