@kb100, don't worry about rating actuations, both cameras will last long. However if you shoot near the ocean a lot a weather sealed body is best. K20D is also a good option in such scenario.

The S8000fd has image stabilization(sensor shift), not the S5700. I just uses higher ISO so that your shutter speed increases.
The S8000fd will cost you 300$ in the US and is an excellent camera. Low light focus and long macro disadvantage are some of the low points, but the zoom range makes up for that.
you can take true telephoto and Wide angle pics with that lens. Great for landscape photographers.
Its better than competition at ISO400, and at ISO 100 and 200 gives the best colors
