Yep, that's the key. I don't know the details of the H&R springs you are referring to, but I assume that these are stiffer than the stock ones. The after-market stiff springs are generally "shorter" than the OE ones, but have much less give... which means even though your car is lowered by an inch or two, there is no scraping/bottoming-out (unless of course you're talking serious lowering) when going over bumps and potholes.
I have installed Pedders springs on my Lancer which has lowered the car a tad, but have not faced any GC issues thanks to their stiffness.
Am looking forward to a review on a Verna equipped with better shocks/springs. Have heard a lot of good things about the performance of the (diesel) Verna, but that the steering has a vague feel and that handling isn't very good.
