Goodyear and Bridgestone are ok tyres from personal experience. Goodyear is a little harder compound and makes alot of road noise. Especially the Eagle NCT which are present on the C Class mercs as well as the E Class. Michelins are good tyres but have no personal experience on them but friends hae them and have driven cars with them. if you want a good set of typres the Pirelli P6000's are one of the best i've driven and pirelli as a brand is fantastic. The amount of grip that is there on these tyres is phenominal. I have a zen and upgraded from Bridgestone to pirelli and the grip really improved tremendously. I therefore recommend Pirelli's or Michelin tyres as they are a softer compound compared to the others. They are a little more expensive and wil not last as long as the others but worth it. MRF are also good and even JK tyre are not bad. Apollo has a new series called Accelere but not really checked it out. Anyone has? are they any good?

Great review, i'll be going in for new tyres too. Would love to have Goodyear or Michellin, but these tyres tend to wear out faster than Bridgestones.

The Potenza G009 seems pretty good to me, if i can get them here.

Tyres do make a lot of difference to how a car behaves at serious speeds. the stock tyres on the Vtec are pathetic in terms of high speed performance, but do wonders when you need to drive sanely.

I suggest if you want good tyres for your vtec you should go in for Pirelli.. I just love Pirelli. Its psychological for me cause these tyres have tremedous grip. I aint no marketing man for Pirelli but I suggest those. Go in for the P6000 series. They are expensive but hey they are the only thing that keep you on the road. You can even check out the p600 series. I have those on my zen and the grip is phenominal. Check them out.

Suggest you check out (topic subject) Goodyear NCT3. I've used that one (but not for long time) but been in Ajmat's car with some hard cornering and U turns. Tyres don't make any noise and planted firmly on the surface.

A real good product if you ask me.

is it?? I have driven Mercedes C Class 200K and it had the same but i found the road noise alot. Even on the New E Class it had alot of road noise. My friend has put them on his honda city and grip is good because of the 205's but the road noise is still there. One more thing.. In bangalore i guess roads are better than mumbai. Here the roads are concrete some places and if tarmac they are pathetic. no at all smooth and have uneven glitches. Maybe thats why you feellthat way. Probably they arent suited for Mumbai pot hole filled roads....

I agree with you on Bombay roads though.

I used to work with Mercedes and have driven atleast 20 of the C's and all made noise. You have to listen to the noise at around 60km/hr. Its quiet a bit compared to other cars. I've not driven the same on the expressway. and depends which C200k. Cause the old one had 15 inch higher profile tyres. The new one has lower profile tyres and are 16 inch. Anyways.. You are more inclined towards Goodyear, Me im towards pirelli..

'I used to work with Mercedes and have driven atleast 20 of the C's'.

That sounds great. You used to work in their factory at Pune?

I'm not inclined to any brand. I have Bridgestones and Goodyear both.

Cheers

I had a set of Goodyear Eagle NCT5 205/55-16s on my Mondeo as OE, and honestly, I hated them. Their dry weather performance was good enough, but their wet weather grip was ATROCIOUS. Can anyone say aquaplaning? I faced it in such HUGE amounts, that I used to drive my Mondeo at 100-110Km/h in the rain on the Bombay-Pune Expressway, because when I'd hit one of the "little rivers" that ran across the road at various points, my heart would stop beating for 1 second. They weren't noisy at all, and offered a decent ride comfort, but overall I'd say they were rubbish as tyres go, especially on a heavy car like the Mondeo.

When I wore them out around 25,000 kms I switched to a set of 225/50-16 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s. Now THESE are what real performance tyres are about. They are expensive, no doubt, but the grip they generate in ANY weather is AWESOME. Road noise is a good deal louder than the NCT5, and ride quality is also stiffer, but grip is MASSIVELY improved. Only problem is, one of my tyres developed a bump in the side wall last September, and Goodyear agreed to replace it under warranty (at around Rs. 8,000/- per tyre, I would hope so!), but to-date they have not been able to supply me a SINGLE replacement tyre, despite four months having passed. Bear that in mind if you consider buying these specialist tyres, but otherwise, I can unreservedly recommend them if you are looking for a very high performance tyre.

G'day Pegasus, great to know that you like our forum.

Sorry to go offtopic but "Where did you get to drive at 190km/hr in Australia without being fined?" I was working for ANZ in Melbourne for about 8 months and have found that the speed restrictions are very strict ....speed camera etc. I got fined AU$130 for driving at 67km/hr on the Great Ocean Road when the maximum allowed was 64(4km grace).

Cheers
