I've used Castrol Edge in my esteem (5W-40). This time I am trying it in my Swift diesel. Engine oil change at 5k kms. What we get here in Bangalore (bought at Metro Bangalore. MRP is Rs. 2950 for 5 litres. Metro gives it at Rs. 2235) is the one manufactured in South Africa. Checked out their website and the details are given below. http://www.castroledge.co.za/PDF/var..._edge_5w40.pdf I also found that Castrol Edge is available specifically for turbo diesel engines Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel 0w-30 1L Oil - Tesco.Direct However this is not available in India. Will let you all know the performance after I change it tomorrow. Searched for Castrol GTX (for turbo charged engines). Am unable to find this. Had seen this once in Metro. But am unable to find this in town. Tried a lot of shops in JC Road Bangalore also. Regards Ravi. Last edited by iridium : 26th October 2007 at 21:24.

Will be changing the engine oil for my Swift VDI tomorrow (Castrol Edge) tomorrow. Will also be adding STP for diesel engine oils additive (MRP - Rs. 295. Paid Rs. 250). One can is good enough for 6 litres of oil. Since Swift uses about 3 litres, can use this for two oil changes. Wynns additive for transmission. This costs Rs. 275 for 125 ml. It says that this also stops oil leaks. Plan to add this to the gear box. STP has a diesel additive that claims to clean the diesel injectors. MRP - Rs. 180. Paid Rs. 160. Will let you all know the performance after all this. Regards Ravi. Last edited by Rudra Sen : 27th October 2007 at 17:31.

Got Castrol Edge added to my Swift VDI today morning. After doing this, came home and checked out the following site: Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible Found that Castrol Edge (sold in Bangalore) meets API SL/CF SL - for petrol engines; is one of the latest standards CF - for diesel engines though is not one of the latest standards, the above link states the following "'CF' is the most popular and is well adequate for passenger vehicle applications" So I guess this should be okay. Haven't driven the car yet (was delivered to my home by Mandovi). Will update the results later. Regards Ravi.

Got Wynn's additive for transmission in the gearbox. The filling of transmission oil in Swift needs to be done from below and can be done only by a mechanic. Added the STP diesel engine oil additive also. The mechanic told me that I should try the STP diesel additive after about 20k kms. The mechanic refused to open the airfilter. Had this opened and there was a lot of dust there (after the MadhyaPradesh trip). The filter element itself is very thin and he refused to blow air on it saying that it would tear. We tapped it lightly and then fitted the same back. Haven't driven the car after all these changes since it was delivered home by Mandovi. Will update the results later. Regards Ravi.

Guys ... Maruti Sepcifies API CG or Above. I tried MoBil Delvac Super 1300 API CJ+ - The latest in Diesel Engine Oil Specification. Called up Marketing head of Mobil - who gave a contact of dealer at Sewree.... who hand-delivered the 5 Litre oil @ 750 MRP 965. The Service Engineers at Seva Maruti goofed up and put in 3.5 L instead of 3.0 L. Had to take the car to local Garage to remove the excess engine oil. Swift DDiS has Exhaust Gas Recirculation.... which lead higher running temperatures and more soot. Engine Oil which effectively handle these are API CI and above. Running the DDiS on synthetic (designed for Petrol engines) may harm the engine after few thousand km runin.

Found that Mobil Delvac 1 (5W 40) is fully synthetic and can be used for diesel engines with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology. Link is given below: Mobil Delvac 1 5W-40
