| Senior - BHPian | Guys, I need a good suggestion for a front pair.I'm currently running: Pioneer 4650 HU Pioneer 6000F amp Pioneer 3990 rear 6x9s Pioneer 305C(enclosed) subwoofer I lost my front speakers and the tweeters in the recent paint job. Do u think 5" coax is ok if i'm definitely gonna run it with my amp. My budget is around 3k-4k.Pls suggest brand and model number of the speakers. Where can i fix this 5" coax anyway? Can it be in the door , cos i dont think it's gonna fit my dashboard.. Thanx in advance

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Hi! To my knowledge the Sumo can only accomodate a 4" speaker in the factory original location. If you want to fit a 5.25 component set, you'll have to cut the door and then put a spacer ring as the Sumo door has little depth.

| Even the door will be a tight fit. But you gotta ask your installer about that. If you are looking at coax there are plenty of brands (JBL, Alpine, Boston, Blaupunkt etc.. all offer something in your price range). |

| Senior - BHPian | Thanx Sam and navin for ur inputs. How much difference in sound quality and performancewould there be between a 4" coax and a 5" one? I've decided to go for the JBL. If i can drive the 4" JBL coax with the amp, and the difference from the 5" isn't drastic,i'm going in for them. Navin and Sam,pls reply.

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Just a small suggestion, please also take a look at the new 4", the cheaper JBL CS2104. It costs less than the GTO426e, (RS 18XX) and has a larger tweeter and generally I was quite impressed with it as the midwoofer cone is the same too.

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Dont have the Fs yet, sorry. Yes the CS are supposed to be "lesser" but some of the products make excellent sense. Physical differences between the GTO426e and CS2104 - Well the GTO426e has a larger heavier magnet. The CS2104s magnet is physically about 25% smaller and lighter. The woofer cone is the same honeycomb material- leads me to believe this particular model uses the same cone as the GTO. Strangely, the GTO has a .5" tweeter and the CS has a 1" tweeter. Costs- GTO426e costs 2500/- and the CS2104 - 1890/- (MSRP)

| funny HF response for a mid is usually determined by cone breakup in the midrage and beaming. in this case the cone being the same i wonder why JBL chose to have 2 different tweeters with the same mid. BTW using a bigger magnet would usaully reduce Qts and hence allow for better bass response but here we are talking about mid-hf integration. |

I called a friend's friend who's a JBL dealer and i asked him if he had stock and what the pricing was for a GTO426e. He was quite puzzled by my question and i told him 'in detail' that its a 4" coax. He immediately replied that it costs 1850. I was like WHOA. I must be really lucky since i'm getting 2.5k(on team-bhp)worth speakers for just 1850. Now, i realised i must come back to earth since it was the CS 4" he was referring to. D@mn, these dealers, all they know is 'only 1 model per size'!!
