Suggestions for 2-DIN audio/GPS device

Am looking for a 2 din USB car stereo player with GPS built in.
(or a GPS device with audio )

Any suggestions pls?

Hi, what is your budget?

Kenwood DNX series 2DIN units have built in GPS navigation (I think it is Garmin). Pioneer, JVC etc. have 2DIN units which have a provision for external hide-away GPS units, which come at an extra cost. Then there are the Caska 2DIN almost-CarPCs with built-in GPS navigation (with iGo maps, I think).

All these cost upwards of 30K.

In dash GPS recievers are not cheap. Most cost upwards of 30K. Kenwood or Pioneer are your best bets.

Some like the Kenwood in the picture below have a frear USB input wire.

What is your drive? As suggested By DerAlte, you could try the CASKA brand of Chinese sets. If you have Chinese connection, then it would be very cheap (Around 30 K for everything including Tyre Pressure Monitor, reverse camera, gps etc). In India it costs around Rs. 47K.

MMI (Map My India) has introduced OE 2DIN Touchscreen Navigation systems. Similar to Kaska. Saw them and really liked their fit and finish.

I drive a Fiesta.

Any experiences with CASKA.. with respect to reliability?

Will contemplate buying a stand alone MMI GPS device given budget restraints.

SQ wise Caska, Motevo and their ilk are still in the same league as Pioneer, Kenwood, or Alpine.

These units (Caska, Motevo etc..) do not have a lot of history so long term reliability is still unknown. As far as GPS and other assocaited features are concerned, frankly I have no idea. Others here might have more information on that.

@hatari, with 20K perhaps you should keep the existing ICE (I assume you have one), maybe do a small refresh (coaxes -> components? ) and buy a standalone MMI unit (cost <10K). You will be able to keep the standalone hidden out of sight in the glovebox till you need it.

From personal experience, the Blaupunkt New York 800 seems to deliver to good measure the criteria you are seeking in your post.

Am sure the Gurus of ICE shall chip in with their suggestions as well.

I am looking for a 2 DIN HU solution which can support the following requirements:

A) Integration with OEM Steering control buttons for Toyota Innova
The HU must be controlled by the following buttons on the toyota innova steering
i) Volume up/down
ii) Track up/down
iii) Mode selector - to switch between AM/FM/Disc etc

B) Navigation
i) The HU should support Garmin or equivalent Navigation solution
ii) It should be easy to upload maps of relevant areas (from the internet).

C) Phone Support
i) The HU should support Bluetooth 3.0,
(It is not necessary for the HU to download all contacts from paired mobile phone.)
ii) The HU should be able to auto pause/restart existing operation (e.g. CD playback) when a phone call is attended.

D) IPOD support
i) The HU should support direct playback and charging of IPOD
ii) The HU should display the title and other tags of mp3 songs when playing back songs

E) Video support

i) The HU should be able to support up to 4 LCDs

F) CD & DVD support


G) AM & FM support

H) The HU must be from a brand name manufacturer - with a good service network in India.

Most of your requirements would be met by Kenwood. Search for DNX7360BT or DNX7380BT.

Thanks for your reply. In fact, taking a cue from your earlier post in this thread - I have already downloaded the user manual for DNX7380BT and going through it. Few questions on which I am searching for answers

1) As I understand the HU has an integrated Garmin Navigation board. Do the actual map files come pre-installed in a removable SD Card? The reason I ask is because, it is not clear from the manual how to update the maps periodically.

2) OEM remote control line w/learning function seems to the mechanism by which the HU can be controlled by the steering wheel buttons.
Does this need an additional device to perform the integration? If so, what brands are recommended?


3) Connections
Would there be "Toyota" type connector on the one-end and a Kenwood type connector on the other end for the following connections
a) Speaker out/Power In
b) R/F Antenna-In
c) Steering Remote In

Really looking for a true plug-play solution in this regard, as dont want to leave any excuse to the dealer to nullify warranty due to wire splicing.

There is no 'Garmin board' - the HU CPU runs Garmin software.

Yes, the maps can be read by the unit from an SD Card.

Honestly, no clue - must ask Kenwood.

* A good installer will have the Innova harness adapter. The Kenwood connector would be in the box
* Antenna is a standard 1-fat-pin antenna connector
* The steering remote is the one that one needs to figure out - there are aftermarket adapters for Kenwood, you only need to procure that

Warranty is not nullified by splicing for the HU, as one doesn't meddle with the harness if using a proper harness adapter. Harness terminates in a connector, to which the harness adapter is plugged in. Wires are color-coded.
