problem with midrange - Team-BHP

i have a pair of BOSE 3 1/2" MID range (2 Ohms) powered by my HU. problem is they trying to reproduce the low frequencies whenever i crank up the bass; as such i cant get a clean sound from them. any suggestions how to rectify?

Simple. Add a capacitor in series. About 1uF will do I think.

a 3.5" mid cannot produce much below 150Hz.

try using a bass blocker such as one found here....

it wont produce bass but atleast it wont distort when you turn it up. then you can add a sub.

1uf is kind high. all he'll get is treble. he'll need about 220uf.

thanx....i forgot to mention, they are powered by Front Channels. for rear i already have an ICE which includes sub, amp and spkrs.

to make 220uf take 2 x 470 uf electrolytic caps and wire them in series (back to back). to improve the sound take a 1-2uf polyester cap and wire it in parallel with the 2x470 back-back combo.

If i get technical the resident gurus scream "NAHEE!" :-)

a 3.5" speaker cannot possibly reporduce bass freq at a level that is reasonable.

so one would have to add a subwoofer or woofer and relieve the 3.5" from such duties (producing bass frequencies).

the simple way to do this is to put a capacitor in series with the 3.5" speaker.

however the capacitor value has to be large or a small cap will block out all the freq except the very high. the sad part is that these large caps are usually electrolytic which is not good. so you have to perform 2 operations with/on these electrolytic caps to make them usable.

a) use 2 caps back to back meaning connect their +ve end together and use the -ve leads only. like this ASCII text drawing HU/amp--->-----cap---+ve---+ve-----cap----->---speaker

b) use a bypass cap around the above "double cap" to improve the sound a bit as electrolytic sounds tend to have a harsh sound. a small polyester cap will do this. you connect the small polyester cap to the 2 remaining -ve leads.

hey...can i do the same thing wit my pio front speakers..?...cause it jars a lot when i pump up the volume..

sure. should help most small speakers but remember there will be a loss of bass so you need a sub or other woofer to substitute that bass.

jars? Dump it and get some decent speakers

Panky had problems with too much trebble not jarring. My JBLs dont jaar even at high vol( fed via amp) and hence I love those.

which HU do u have? If possible switch on the HPF from the HU and the bas freq will be gone. no need for extra stuff man.
