FM reception problem observed in skoda rider

Hi Guys!!!!!!

We have purchased a new skoda octavia rider 1.9TDI last month. This car has come with an alpine MP3 player (provided by the company only). One peculiar thing I have observed is that the FM reception of this system is very bad. I am not sure whether it has something to do with the skoda antena's or is it something to do with the alpine system. This is a standard system which the company provides in rider models. For a car of this budget I am quite sure it might not be the antenna issue but please guys clarify my doubts as this particular thing is disturbing me a lot

Check if the antenna wire is properly connected to its slot in the back of the system.

Since the player is provided bythe company, this is something that they will take care of. It's mostly the antenna or the connection to the HU. In either case they will need to take the player out. Go to skoda service.

I got a Skoda too. It came with a 9830 that was gifted to my wife (just to make her life difficult - given Alpine's steep learning curve) LOL anyway my 9833 has no issues. Either someone forgot to connect the Antenna (like said above) or get the Alpine checked for FM reception (there are instruments that can do this) or ask Skoda to replace the Alpine. it was theirs to begin with. BTW what model Alpine is it?

If you are talking to Skoda I would love to know if they still have any 9833s. I'm told some customers ask for the Alpine HU to be replaced with another brand.

yeah dude...ask any mechanic if u dont have time to go to the showroom..he ll remove the deck..nd check weather the antenna wire is connected to the deck or no..most probably it wont be connected..thats why u might be gettin bad reception...he ll connect it..nd ur works done..if thats not the problem..then u ll need to go 2 the skoda showroom

Why doesn't he try checking it himself? Is the Skoda HU difficult to remove?

Nope but the has paid for a new HU so why not let the dealer do the dirty work.

Hi Guys,

Got the system checked. It is perfectly ok and so is the antenna and it's connectivity as confirmed by the Skoda guys. But somehow I am still not convinced. The reception is good enough when I am in Mumbai town and in open places but reception is very bad in my parking slot at Thane. Whereas in both my previous cars (Xing and Baleno) reception was good enough even in parking lots. I personally feel the silver antenna provided in most of the cars are far more superior compared to the black antennas provided in cars like skoda. what say guys?

I dont see how the silver antenna's are better. Alpine's tuner is not known to be as sensitive as say Pioneer. I would check out a different HU - maybe your installer can loan you one for test.

BTW I am still interested in an Alpine better than the 9830 (9833, 9855, 9856R, or 9857)
