Default Which sub/amp to add to existing system?

Hi Guys,

I have this setup currently on my M800 :-

HU - Sony CDX-S22S.
Kenwood i series 6"x9" 3-way 350W speakers in enclosures at the rear
Pioneer Tweeters up front

What is the ideal upgrade as regards a Subwoofer and amplifier?. I think for the M800 a small subwoofer is enough to provide a tight sound.

For the sub, i have the JBL GTO804 8" 800Watt sub woofer in mind. What sort of enclosure would suit this? and is it the right choice; or are there better alternatives?

What amplifier would best drive the sub, and the rear speakers?

Would appreciate all your valuable inputs

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8A5F50Y...04&i=109GTO804 abt teh sub

abt the box u need http://www.crutchfield.com/popups/S-.../box_type.html
» sealed box volume: 0.30 cu. ft. » ported box volume: 0.60 cu. ft.

A Sony 504 would do fair good job maybe even a 502.

Thanks for the response, mate :-)

Do u suggest a ported box? better airflow?

What sort of prices should i expect for the sony 504 amp, and JBL 804 sub?
any additional wiring required?

go for ported as it require less power than the sealed one and is louder than the sealed one also.

Whts your budget? And wher in Tvm did you see that sub?
karthik247 knows a guy who makes good boxes.

But in real world scenario (tvm scenario),I would suggest taht you get a tube or box made by a company with builtin sub ( like JBL, Blau, Pio) as they are perfect.

If someone quotes you 3.5-4k for taht sub; get a bigger 10inch sub of JBL. 504 should be 4.5k.
Please do check teh spare wheel well sub fitting in one of teh threads.

Now guys dont blast me. Whre's the spare tyre of M800 kept? Like in Santro na?

Well Jk, i haven't 'seen' the sub actually :-)..one of my colleagues was planning it for his own car...i believe he knows someone who can do the job.

Alright. since u say it is dicey getting a box built; i check out the box with the in built sub? Ok... i have had a look at the JBLFy santro in your garage :-)

i am sure it sounds great!..but, will it fit into the rear of an M800? I beleive it costs something like 8K?... that would be stretching my budget a bit..not that i mind....

The 10 inch JBL sub puts out i think 1000 Watts..no? Will the current electricals take the load?..my main concern is; nothing should foul up the electricals of the car.

I saw one at a shop near Plamoodu. 8inch should do good for M800; but I prefer a 10 as you would need a box anyway.

I had an ear splitting experience going around some shops checking these out... man my ear hurts now :-)..they play all these dance tracks which sound exactly the same in every type of sub.

Anyways... here is what i have narrowed down to:-

Amp - Sony 504z - Rs.4750/-
Sub - 3 choices...
JBL - GTO series. 10 inch - 4500/-
Sony Xplod - 1000 watt - 3800/-
Pioneer DVC series - 1000 watt - 3400/-

Personally, i am inclined to go with the JBL..and get a box made. What say?

I think DVC's need a bit powerful amp and so Jbl looks fine.
You can also try Pioneer free air type which you can have on rear tray.

Sid

Go for the JBL 8". If I am right in assuming you like music and not sheer loudness, it is better than the other subs you mentioned.

Gunbir what do you think abt the DVC he was talking abt? He would need a powerful amp for the DVC right?

Yes the Pioneer sub is a high output sub and needs much more power. Plus its not really an accurate or musical sub. If he wants sheer output, he's better off looking at a larger sub. But if he wants a nice clean sound, an 8" will serve him well.

thanks a lot for the advice, guys!

I have a slightly techie question here...

B/w the JBL 8 inch , 10 inch sub, the 8 inch is a single vioce coil, whereas the 10 inch is a dual voice coil sub. Which would be able to utilise the amp the best?

I believe the dual voice coil gives more wiring options to do the same...no?

Sid... the Sony amps would best support a 4ohm load in bridged mode, so while DVC may give many configuration options, you only want the 4ohm options.
