I dont know too much... But for my home audio I am using an 8" Peerless driver with their tweets in a two way arrangement in a standing three-quarter-wave tube... I Like It!!

I agree... for the money I really like the stuff Peerless makes (or made)... And would love to try out their stuff in my car anytime! - but dont think I know too much yet... am trying to get there.... :o)

I dont know how the quality of their drivers are now a days - after the alliance fell thru... any R&D happening? or is it the same stuff??

Of course. In any case they weren't relying on the Danes for their R&D. It's been ages since the alliance fell through. In addition to their team in India, they have a host of international, specialist drive-unit and loudspeaker designers working with them. Some are very famous names in the international hi-fi arena. They make some spectacular stuff. I don't just say that because I have worked with them in the past, it really is good. They have not really encouraged the DIY scene very greatly, one of the prime reasons being their inability to manufacture something in very small quantities when someone needs it. It's impossible for them to process small orders like 4-6 pieces etc. But I have always been wise to include my small orders whenever I know that a production run for that model is due sometime soon.

I am getting all bleary eyed at the thought!!

B&T.. any drawback in plumbing an Home Audio spkr into a car??

KB are you talking about Peerless Denmark? After a long complicated story Peerless Denmark is now part of Tympany.

Peerless India is owned by Damodar Ratha who has in my view put the Indian loudspeaker industry on the world map. I respect him for his business accumen but like B&T said his company is not geared towards the DIY market esp the India DIy market. The only way they could do this is first establish themselves in the International DIY market and sell the excess stock in India.

Most drivers PI makes is for OEM use and OEMs will not like drivers made for them and similar to those made for them to be available outside these OEM agreements.

I have heard PI drivers outside the OEM space. So cant emphatically make comments about them. However the few OEM drivers I have heard have left me unimpressed. Then i was raised on Philips, Dynaudio, ScanSpeak, Focal, Morel, Vifa, Eton, Accuton, Fostex, Jordan, JBL, UREI, Paul S. Klipsch, Altec, EV, Cabasse, etc. and have found fault in some of these drivers too. For one I am not a fan of the ring radiator tweeters. I find the treble they provide to be unnatural...the list is endless.

You see, I am very hard on speakers. Maybe, just maybe, someone warned Mr. Ratha about my eclectic tastes and that might be be the reason I got the cold shoulder from PI.

B&T, I understand that PI had/has some Dane and German designers on consultancy. :-)

Im seriously considering buying a 7950 for my indica.
If i put only components in the front doors (6" or 6.5 ") without any rear ovals, will i get good SQ with a decent amount of bass?

aditya, well it depends upon your definition of SQ and bass. If you want boom boom...sorry! If you want decent clear crisp sound, go for front comps amped and enjoy! PLEASE dont go to all those local fathegunj wale installers!

You will get decent SQ but the bass might be a tad low.

If it is your budget that is stopping you and SQ is more important, get an older model HU and save about 2-2.5k. You can stretch the budget a little and buy grey 6X9s. 6X9s will be able to produce "decent" amount of bass.

can anyone let me know the stock speaker size of the front of Santro Xing?? I am planning to install component sepaker in the front. I dont want to cut the doors and prefer to install in the stock space. What speaker size can i go for? Thanks in advance.

AFAIK, 6", you could install a 5 1/4" with no mods and 6 1/2" with spacer.

Is it possible to install a 6.5 " in the indica with just a spacer and no mods to the door panel. That way i can put back the stock cover when i sell the car off?

nope, without mods you cant install 6.5". you get the mod done, and when you want to sell your car off, remove your expensive speaker & put 50 rs wala local 6.5"....simple

And another question if you dont mind.

Have you had any problems with the front door speakers getting damaged by water ? I read about foam baffles from crutchfield elsewhere on the forum, is there anything thats locally available ?
