Question Can it happen?? - Replacing a 2 DIN Head Unit

Sorry guys I may be wasting your time but I had this thought in my mind and wanted to clear it!
I have a corolla in my family. It has the stock sound system from toyota(the big one with cassate and 6 in-dash cd changer).
Now if I want to upgrade the head unit to an mp3,is it possible? because the car has airbags and you need to take the whole dash out!!

If that is overcomed then is there any brand which makes that same size,I mean I dont want there to be any open space and the head unit coming out,etc...
I have that problem with our ikon, replaced the stock with Pioneer p1y.Is there any solution to this problem??

SRK, IMO u shd get a cool 10 - MP3 changer and install it under ur seat! no issues with changing CDs again as well! (as long as u r OK with rest of the ICE). theres a model in Sony which would cost u approx 5.5 - 6K. it sends the signal to FM and the quality is excellent!

you can do it...if you want to install a 1DIN player in the same location you will need something like this..

But do Mp3 cd changers work with normal headunits,it can play only audio cds..

That means I can get a single cd headunit like p1y in the same place with this installed right??

1. Yes, U wd be well enough with an MP3 player (i know and use only Sony...so wd be limiting my comments on that)....it wd play ur ACDs/CD-Rs/CD-RWs/Mp3s all of 'em! so just dont worry....Sony has the aftermarket changers that wd play with any kinda HUs.

2. Yes, as navin boss suggested, u may also go in for buying what he suggested and upgrade to a new single disc HU. Well, am not too much sure abt their availability in India or do the crutchfield people ship internationally!

I assume you can get these adapters here as my nephew has one in his Honda City (NHC) and a friend has a 1 DIN unit installed in his Toyota Corolla (which has a 2 DIN slot).

Hey toy car I am no ICE expert but read the forum more carefully, Pioneer is not the best.... period. There are much much better brands around for similar or slightly more money.

P.S. I have to confess I am a very very loyal Alpine customer!

I dont find much wrong with Pioneer expect their attitude towards sales and service in India. Some of their better HUs can compete with the best.

BTW I am an Alpine customer too.
