Default Me too Started thinking about the ICE

I have following set up right now. All fitted by dealer.

Pioneer HU,
Blaupunkt tweeters inside wing mirror ornament
Blaupunkt front speakers In the door panel,
Blaupunkt rear speakers on the parcel tray.

I got it right, I do not know the par numbers of any of them. In fact I was/am not very serious about the audio set up. Still didn't want to get bored during routine office drives so got them fixed. Reason I went for Blaupunkt speakers is that they were OEM ad did not need any cutting and breaking of anything on my then new car, they were bolt on.

After seeing extravagant set-ups in this site, I some times felt, "could I have had a better ICE?", and some times I have felt at times the music from the rear speakers are distorted, and door panel resonates some times.

Still I do not want to go for a lot of bells and whistels, Dont wanna hide amps everywhere and make loud noise (Music lovers excuse me for this).

Could the experts here, please help me minimise my small grouse I mentioned, with out much of tweaking.

Does replacing the speakers to JBL do anythihng better? If so do they fit in without having to use saw and chissel?

What can be done to stop/minimise resonance?

Thanks in advance guys....

Not to forget, who can do this work in Bangalore best?

Rear speakers distortion... either the speakers are bad... or the HU is clipping..

Panel rattling... you will have to subject the panels to some kind of sound proofing treatment like Dynamat/wurth etc..

Tweeters... I am sure you would have tried lowering the treble/High frequencies on the HU.. does this stuation exist despit this?

EDIT: Oh Yes... What car??

Well,
My car Fiat petra...

Welcome your comments, Keep it going gentlemen.

I did not quite get your comment about tweeters..

And the rear speaker problem! Its funny, It started after Sundaram changed the rear window glass. They had spilled glass peices (minute) on the speakers. I cleaned them later and the problem got sorted out. Now I am looking out for a little more better quality.

How better are JBL compared to Blaupunkt?

Blau do have good units and used to be associated with Merc sometiem back ( now too? ). Just figure what you can shell out or what you want. Do you want compos or co-ax?

Since you have a sedan, a 6x9 at rear would give you nice thump and a compo at front a cleaner sound. Maybe you can even have a co-ax at the frnt. Its your taste. An amp would definetly help you get a better sound.

If the original speakers are good; keep them and jsut add a 4 channel amp. And as KB said, get soem deadeners for your doors.

Blaupunkt Velocity and ODx models are quite ok. I have not been happy with their GT models (not to be confused with JBLS GTO series).

If you have Velocity all I would do is add a nice amp and a sub (depending on the ammount of space you are willing to sacrifice). If you have no boot space to sacrifice for a sub a pair of 6x9 can do fine. With some effort and the right sub you can even use a pair of 6" coax and a sub in the rear deck.

Either a 4 ch amp (with 2 channels bridged to drive the sub) or a 4ch and a 2/1ch. amp or a 5 ch. amp would also help.

Please let us know your budget and goals.

Gurus, Pardon my ignorance!
What ever you are talking, like a Italian dishes, sounds yummy, but do not have a clue what you are talking about.

What is a sub( I assume a sub woofer)?

What is an amp ( amplifier?)

What is compo? no guess Sounds like shrt form for component, but again, what component?

What is co-ax? sounds like co-axial, but again, co-axial what.. cable?

What are its advantages? What are you trying to put in my boot? why are you talking about sacrificing it . are you goint ot cut its throat?

I assume channel means a channel of amplification in amp? For a stereo you have 2 channels, what is 4 channel then?

What is bridging?

Please give me some gyan guys.... . Is there linky I can check this out?

subwoofer usually require significant space in the boot. in return they offer you bass (low freq. sounds). it is usualy a trade off between how much bass one wants and how big a subwoofer one wants to install.

Looks like I'm the one who will answer your questions

forgive us, we take things for granted sometimes and it takes a little audio innocence like yours to bring us back to earth. OK so let me help

What is a sub( I assume a sub woofer)? Yes

What is an amp ( amplifier?) Yes

What is compo? no guess Sounds like shrt form for component, but again, what component? A component set is a set of speakers where you get 2 mid woofers (generally 5.25" or 6"), a crossover network and a pair of tweeters. These sound very nice in the front of your car.

What is co-ax? sounds like co-axial, but again, co-axial what.. cable?
Co-Axial means speakers with a common axis. For example, regular car speakers have a woofer, midrange and tweeter built all on the same axis. Probably like your blaupunkts right now.

I assume channel means a channel of amplification in amp? For a stereo you have 2 channels, what is 4 channel then?
A 4 channel amplifier is basically 4 seperate chanels of independent amplification in one body. You can use 2 channels to drive the front speakers in stereo and the other 2 to drive the rear.

What is bridging?
Instead of running pair of speakers on 2 channels, if you combined the power of two channels to give you one powerful channel to drive (for example) a subwoofer, that is called bridging.

Could not resist laughing after reading this .. Buts its true,
This is how I feel when I go thru posts of Navin, jkdas and other ICE Gurus
Its really complicated to understand there Hi-fi terms...

It would really be helpful to people like me and DRC if you people can suggust things in layman terms.

Cheers

greatDrive, I thoguht we WERE using layman terms! Just ask Sam how much effort I put into tempering the technobabble out of my posts. Apparently I am not doing enough. Thanks for the info. Will try to keep it simpler still.

Bhai log, Thanks a lot...

The linky and the answers you experts gave, really helped me a lot..

Now, I can spell many words in this subject. Many questions answered, and many getting surfaced.

More questions to follow gurus,,,

BTW, did any one answer "should changing the speakers alone to JBL make a reasonable diff to the sound quality?" Is it obsolutely necessary to add an amp?

Usually OE speakers are low end ones and hence an upgrade to better version of same brand or a good brand like JBL would do wonder.

Cheapest 4 channel amp: Sony 504z ; 5k approx.

Amp will help you with more cleaner sound as they 'do provide' continous power to your speakers unlike a HU.

DRC, JBLand Blau are different companies. Some people might feel one is better while another might like the other. It is all a matter of personal choice.

Whenever you change your speakers to better, specialist speakers, it changes your sound completely for the better.
