To all the audio gurus in the forum:

1. Is it advisable to go with speakers of the same make as the HU?
2. With regard to speaker makes, could you list the top 5?
3. Is there a Boston Acoustics dealer in Mumbai?

1. No. Usually quite the opposite.
2. Top 5 at what price point? Top 5 in sales? Top 5 in sound quality can differ from listener to listener.

Hey Navin,

I reside in Andheri.
Top 5 speaker makes with regard to sound quality.
See, I plan to have Sony as my HU and am contemplating about the speaker make. I plan to buy the Indica Xeta; would you suggest that I have the set-up done through the dealer? (Han Motors in Andheri)
If not, since you're from Mumbai too, would you please recommend some places where I could have this done?
How much do you think I should be looking at cost-wise for this particular set-up?

Andheri? I dont go that far. My FIL lives on the beach road in Versova but I got his car done at my dealer in Worli. I see a lot of Bass.com stickers when I visit him on cars in his neighbourhood.

Try Bharat Auto at 24932735. Dont use my ref. they'll send you my bill too! :-)

Top 5 according to what I have heard: Focal, Infinity, Polk momo, Alpine Type R, and Morel (there are few exotic brands that should perfrom just as well like Hertz, Illusion, etc..).

Like I said earlier. Companies that make quality HUs need not make quality speakers. In fact of the major manufacturers only Blaupunkt makes a listenable HU and spealer (Velocity series). Others dont come to mind right now.

30K....

HU: 9K - Blaupunkt Monterey, Clarion 366 / 368
Front speakers: Infinity, Alpine about 6K for components
Rear Speakers: same as front but coax about 4K

Total 19K

Now there are 2 options...both costing about 11K
Sub+Amp: Pio 6100 at 7K with a Pio 306C in a 1 cu. ft. sealed box at 4K use amp to drive front speakers and sub and use HU to drive rear speakers.
OR
JBL 1200B Bass box (I prefer the box to the tube) at 8K and Sony 502 at 3K use the HU to drive the front and rear speakers.

The 1st option allows for more SPL the second more SQ.

BTW I forgot you'd need about 3-4K for wires and install costs but if you are looking at buying all this from your installer maybe you can get a price break.

Get a good wire kit (hint: avoid Boss) for the amp. It shoudl cost you about 1-1.5K

2. I am not part of this industry. I go to Bharat Car Audio in Worli. Started going there from 1996 after I got too old to do installs myself. I have no problems with them.

It's just that I have my apprehensions when it comes to credibility, especially in a city like Mumbai.
But yeah, although it's going to be quite a drive from Andheri, I'll certainly give these guys a try.
They sell and install the system too, correct?
And with my system set-up (in the PM), how much would I be looking at?
