3. What about the coax.. do i go in for JBL or blaupunkt
4. A box sub (does this include the amp required by the sub or do i have to get an additional one)
1) if you can; but not a rule
2) I havent heard Velocity; but GTOs are good
3) Go for co-ax at Rear. and 6.5inch compos at frnt; JBL/Blau, your taste, your money, your ears.
4) Get a boxed sub and an amp.

either; a good 4 channel amp and use it to run the compos at frnt and sub with remaining 2 channels in bridged mode. cheaper option

or, get a mono amp or a good 2 channel amp for sub. costlier option

thanks jkdas.. but forgive my ignorance what do you mean by running the 2 channels in bridged mode ?

Also do i need some kind of crossover filter to feed the comps. I noticed that blau provides the crossover default with the component set (Velocity series)

www.fxaudio.com for some JBL products. Or PM Sam for what you are looking for.

Hi Folks
I checked some Jbl comps and this is what i found :

GTO607C - 160mm (6-1/2") 2-way component system (2 ohms)
GTO627 - 6-1/2" 2-Way Loudspeaker (2 ohms)
GTO75.4 II - 520 Watt 4-Channel amplifier

I was thinking wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a 6 channel amp and use 4 channels to power the comps and coxs and use the remaining 2 channels to power the sub rather than get a separate amp for the sub ??

Any idea on the cost of these. I beleive they will be very expensive so are they any recommendation for the next best option.

607 costs 6.5k and 637 at 4k. Its a 3way, not 2 way.

6 channel would cost more. YOu can look at CS60.4 as its cheaper than 75.4

I would suggest you stick with JBL rather than Velocity. I own Velocity 130 Components which are from the last year lineup (2004 model). They perform good but are'nt much great. And I've heard the latest Velocity components are more down on quality. They are not easy to service too.

Get a Hertz 300D Subwoofer if possible. This Sub is a very good one indeed. You'll be amazed by the good quality bass it can pump out. Mate it to a good Monoblock or get that 6 channel amp from Audison for 28k. 1 amp! less mess and lots of power!
You can go in for ID Subs if you're more inclined towards SQ!
And if these does'nt fascinate you, then just get a JBL 12" and that CS60.4 amp.

As naven said all these JBL, Infinity, Becker, Harman Kardon all from the same leading audio manufacturer Harman International. Though its from the same manufacturer there will be lot of variation in the performance. Each brand/product designed for different sector of customers. As i heared from many people JBL is good but Infinity is better than JBL.

Hi Folks

Based on the suggestion/advise on this thread, i have identified the following:
1. JBL GTO607C - 160mm (6-1/2") 2-way component system (2 ohms)
2. JBL GTO627 - 6-1/2" 2-Way Loudspeaker (2 ohms)
3. JBL CSO60.4 II - 145 Watt 4-Channel amplifier -
4. Hertz HBX 300 DS sub - 4+4 ohms
5. Havent identified the amp for the sub yet.. any suggestions ?

Also some more questions:
1. Is it necessary to isolate the music power connections from the rest of the electrical circuits in the car ? How is this done.
2. Can the sub be installed in a manner which makes it detachable, just in case i need the additional boot space temporarily.
3. Any suggestions for the amp for the sub are welcome
4. Since the 4 channel amp has only 145W and each speaker has a RMS rating of 50-60W, so 4 speakers would be 200-240W. Is that a problem?
5. Is any kind of filter required to isolate the low end from the COAX and the Comps (since they should be going to the sub) or does the amp take care of that?
6. How much does each cost and are they available in Mumbai ?
7. And finally the big question, give me the name/address of some good installers in Mumbai.

Thanks guys
