Default How to differentiate between Genuine and Fake Amp Speakers Sub etc

I was going through some posts and looks like now days even high end shops are selling fake / refurbished products, while charging for genuine equivalent rates.

Considering that there is so much mess in market, how do we make sure that
T-Bhpians get genuine stuff when they want and pay for it...

Request knowledgable folks to please throw some light on how to distinguish fake from genuine

Speakers / subwoofers
Amplifiers
other ICE related stuff....

This might come handy for all ICE upgraders!

This has been somewhat discussed earlier too.

As NavinJi says: asking for Bill and warranty will show it.
(and BILL means proper bill with reg. nos. etc..)

I know, read that.

But also read that these swanky shops are provinding bill and warrenty. But problem comes when people try to claim that warrenty!

It always helps to know yourself few points to safeguard yourself.
Can anyone share few points?

That's why I stressed on proper bill and not just a piece of paper with something written. Look for serial no. marked on the bill and product. They should match.

Very easy... ONLY buy from AUTHORISED DEALERS... never pick up from resellers..

Second always demand a VAT invoice - clearly detailing his pan-tan-shan etc

third get hte warranty card STAMPED bythe dealer and get it registered!

Then post everything including fotu of the goods on T-Bhp and you will have your answer!!

lastly dont flame me... just ignore the last line!!! lol

this is the best way to get to know that the product is a fake or not......

and one more thing as for the model number and google it up and see if u can find it on the manufacturer website then it will be real model.....not a remake of any popular model.....

I have seen chinese remake of pioneer HU P1-Y

No no direct bad experiences but lately heard lot of such cases.

Besides bill and warrenty what are other points to check?

What if an authorized shop is not available around. And the product you are looking at is only available thru gray market. What precautions can one take then?

Some tips that you could follow:
1. Always ensure that the device is box packed. Ask the installer to open the box in front of you.
2. Ensure that the serial number on the box is the same as that on the device.
3. Ensure that the importers stamp/sticker on the box is that of a approved distributor. There has to be a importer stamp/sticker on the box.

In case of JBL here are some tips provided by Sam:

It's not easy to distinguish fakes and originals in grey market. If that could be done easily, then the grey wont stay grey for long and would've been made white somehow. Grey means a bit of risk! And fakes are also part of that risk.

I think you can use the same rule as you would for a White product. Only thing you cant be sure of is if you are receiving a first hand peice or a second hand peice.
