Default Amps and Speaker matching!

Hey guys,
was just browsing thru amps and speakers made by different companies.... all the places i see that amps are more powerful than their respective speakers...
any reasons for that?
for eg...
SoundStream REF1600.2 (full range amp) has around 480 WRMS per channel, but no speakers match upto that rating?
or
am i missing something?

regards,
ant.

Full range amps like that are often also used to drive subwoofers.

true sir, i bought that crap called Audiobahn back in US, claiming 300 X 2 RMS in bridged mode.....i was under the same situation, so bought "matching" Audiobahn AS96Q speakers, having the largest magnet i cd ever see in a speaker....claiming to handle 200 W RMS; just to realize after returning back that my XPLOD sound better with my Silicon amp!!

True.... but then why not make it a monoamp... which has only limited frequency.... or is it that... its costly to build filters which would do the same?...

navin, these could be 'little' flexible.... but then again... 480 WRMS..... even if you take the half of it... say 240 watts.... still you dont find any speakers that match it....

regards,
ant.

A stereo amp stable at 2 ohms in stereo and 4 ohms in mono, for one, has far more flexibility in usage than a mono amp that would have been stable at 4 ohms.

Agreed. But can you do a tri-mode with a monoblock? There was my point.

Soundstream is doing wonders if they are making amplifier with the specs mentioned . What price are they offering for this state of the art product?

O/T

Is this when the amp in question allows the subwoofer to be powered in Mono mode WHILE the speakers will play in stereo?
I remember reading something to that effect in the owners manual of my 2 channel US amp.

p.s : I know its not as simple as I have made it sound

yeah old is gold when it comes to many of the brands... most listings highlight the year, location of manufacture etc. Cant comment on the SS.

I would suggest to select any other brand and leave the SS as they not so good as they used to be.....
