Budget ICE for INNOVA

Hey Gurus

First of all, let me thank you for making my car-buying decision easy.
Bought a petrol Innova (V-Model). It came with a double-din system, which I found pretty ordinary.

Now I want to go for a change (budget around 25K). I went through the INNOVA install threads and could not find anything that advised around this budget.

I normally listen to mostly Hindi/South Indian music, not a very high volume guy but prefer clarity.

Now my doubts:

1. Can I keep my Head unit and change only the speakers ? (Are the supplied speakers any worth ?).

2. Is the option of two amps (one 4 channel for speakers and a mono for sub) is good or the option of 4 channel for speakers is good.

3. If I want to go for a sub-which is the best place? I am not very comfortable having it in the dickey ( almost non-existent to me in INNOVA).

4. I was thinking of going in for a JBL amp(mono CS300.1) and a sub with box (CS1204B) and comp-speakers for the front. Should this be OK.
I have been given two tweeters that are placed near the small window in the front, will they still be connected in the new setup ? Is there any specific advantage of the BASS Tube Sub?

5. Looking at other INNOVA threads, looks like Dynamat Damping is necessary. How much would that cost

5. Finally, are there any good installers in Hyderabad that any bhp-ians had a good opinion about?

i would suggest you keep the double din & spend money on the speakers etc., since you are on a budget.

1. Yes thats the first thing you need to change

2. If on a budget, you can install just a 4 chanel amp. Bridge the rear for the sub and use the other two for the front compos. Sure if you can afford it, go for a 4 channel amp with a mono block, it's better

3. Well, look at the specified links and you might get some ideas.

4. No, if you buy a component set, then you existing tweeters should be removed. No advantage or disadvatnge to a subwoofer enclosure. The bass tube is a popular, VFM bass enclosure that sounds pretty darn good.

5. Dynamat damping, or any other brand damping is not necessary. Yes It improves the sound and reduces the rattling and metallic vibrations quite a bit, if it is there. At this level you may not find it necessary.

Thanks a lot Sam, for the advice. Another (rather stupid) question, is there an amp which has both 4 channel and mono block. I could not find anything like that in the JBL brochure that I got. Any model number would help.

Spoke to a bhp-ian who works with me (Satish), he was saying there are none.
I visited the impressive JBL stall in the recent Lifestyle show, somehow I was feeling they should have an inhouse installer who should make people realize how good the JBL accessories are and also how different they perform when installed correctly.

May I go ahead and suggest that they should get an enthusiastic guy(who is not necessarily knowledgeable about JBL) and train him inhouse.

Now, from the advice what I have decided: I will go for a JBL amp (may be cs60.4) with a comps for the front and leave the rear ones as they are.
In the next installment, buy a sub and rear co-ax speakers.

I was thinking I will listen after the amp and comp installed with my existing HU and then decide on replacing the HU . As I want to replace my doublel-din with a good double din. Till now , I could find only FHP5000MP or FHP4200MP. I would also like to know if anybody has experience with these models.

JBL does make 6 ch. amps you can bridge 2 ch. for the sub. But usually these 6 ch. amps are more expensive than a 4ch. amp + monoblock combination. Sam, Gunbir, B&T can provide price datails for comparision of a 5/6 ch amp vs 4 ch. + monoblock.

That's a good thing to do. Single din would be better than Double din.

BTW, Mugen! In the pic, the HU seems to be a bit protruded than the below cubby. Ain't it supposed to be flush mounted as in LBM's Swift?
Is it just because of the way this pic is shot or is there a difference between upper and lower dins?

There are more single DIN HUs out there and most development happens in 1 DIN hence you tend to get some very nice 1 DIN Hus while many 2 DIN HUs are quite ordinary.

Mugen_Power : one question, were you able to exchange the HU gave by Toyota ?

I think I will postpone my HU replacement for a while and start with adding an 4-ch amp and comps for the front.
The reason for my interest in 2-din is two fold; one - I have a lot of casettes (mainly my wife's - so can't mess around with those) and two - it fills the place quite neatly.
Saw a pioneer 2-din in a friend's wagon-r, looked quite impressive.

Sorry Sudheer, but the GTO755.6 is not sold in India.

I have sold my Toyota Head Unit to my friend who replaced his single din head unit to double din in his Innova G.

Thanks Sam....that leaves me with no choice but to go for a 4channel amp (st60 or st75).
