Hi folks,

I have almost zeroed in on the below configuration for Santro xing whose stocks are 4'' front and 6'' rear.

HU - Pioneer 2850MP (4800/- Grey)
Front - JBL CS 2104 - 1800/-
Rear - JBL GTO 637 - 3800/-

The guy offered me a 10k deal for the above with fittings. I did test the above configuration in the weekend and I was happy with the sound.

I was planning to get JBL 427, but the stock is unavailable.

I plan to getting this fitted today.
Is there any change I need to make in the above configuration ? Please advise.

Are there any specific cables that need to be used for wiring? I see that the front speakers in the above config are of 4 ohm impedance and the rear ones are 2ohm impedance. Any issues with this ?

Anyone using Pioneer 2850 HU out here? any inputs?

Thanks.

4lacs (lol nice name)
Prices are fine, equipment is ok. You seem to be doing just fine. Don't worry, relax and remember to enjoy the music. That's what this is all about.
Remember to post your experience and opinion over here after it is all done, so others can benefit from it.

just an idea...
you can get the 3850 and a CS series 6" coax. I would see if the 3850 offeres any real advantage over the 2850 though.

Navinji, The 2850 has no audio settings other than bass and treble. the 3850 has the bass treble as well as the EQ-EX for frequency control as well as mid high low level control.

Also, how about using a 6X9 CS3196 (i think) coax in the back on mdf tray. This should giv better bass.

4lacs, you got your choices. better HU or better speakers. if you ask me I think the JBL CS series is fantastic value. I am not one to prmote any brand but I have found that so many of my friends have prefered the JBL series over other products in the same price range that I would make this an exception.

4Lacs: My suggestion would be hold your horse and spend on your HU. Again, it depends, if you are planning on adding a Amplifier and Sub, then 2850 is not the one.

Also, I have heard the setup on the stock plastoc holders in Santro and the bass is pathetic and there is no punch. I would suggest, again if you are not planning for a amp and sub upgarde, go for 6X9 as Vid pointed on a MDF tray, the bass will be better.

But if you are not worried of adding more amps and subs and are happy with the regular setup then 2850 is good, but I would also see Blau ones they might cost 1000rs more but with B&W.

Cheers!

4Lacs,

As already told by Navinji if you dont want to cross the budget then get better HU or better speakers, but it depends upon in future if you want to add amp and sub then right now get better HU with preouts.

Mugen.

True, sorry when it comes to HU's i get all confused.

If you intend to buy an amplifier at any point in life, please do get a HU with a pre out. It is necessary.

your budget is 10k at present. how far can you stretch it ? because you will need to stretch it by a mile, meaning 10% of your name, at least, when you walk into the ICE section. lol.

dont take that seriously. but if you are planning on spending more later on to improve the music, then you ought to spend a little more on the HU & get a better one. But, if you are the type that justs listens to the music for the music & not for the sound & if you are comfortable with what you hear, then go ahead & get that HU & speakers. The combination is pretty decent.

4lacs...since by you must be confused at 10K i can see 2 options.
a) 2850 with the 637/2104 option you mentioned
b) 3850 with a CS series 6" (instead of the GTO series 6" - 637) and 2104.

Thanks all of you folks.

The message is clear from all of you - upgrade the HU as well as speakers for a better sound depending on the budget. I will now look at 3850 as Navinji suggested (to allow for future Amp) and also take a look at the co-axial speakers fitted on MDF.

And I agree madbullram, the santro stock holders really is pathetic. The fitting guy was also telling yesterday its going to be real sweat to fit-in the front 4'' ones in santro. As you indicated the bass is not good.

I will take a look again at the combinations, hear myself and post my inputs on the 3850, and the speakers. Thanks all of you again folks.

Navinji, thanks for the options. Yes I was thinking what best 10k can offer me now, but now I understand thats not the good way to think if I am upgrading later.

4Lacs: My thoughts again, 2850 is the basic one wheras 3850 is one step more with HPF / LPF (check the ICE terminology post to understand this) which gives you control over what frequencey should go to subs and speakers.

Now 3850 is good if you are planning to add one amp. If later, like what I am planning, you may add one amp for subwoofer and a 4 channel amp for your four speakers, then the model is 4850 which has 2 pre-out which will give you better control for both the amps.

So it all about what you want to do. I would say just think for sometime and decide. If you are going to upgrade in time, then its better you plan upfront to avoid disappointment.

If you are happy with a basic ICE setup then 3850 with 6X9 will do justice.

Cheers!
Ram

P.S: My own experience being here (T-Bhp ICE forum) might add a BIG hole in your bank balance but the experience is PRICELESS
