1. but it looks like I will have to modify the front door.
2. The 2 rear speakers are on the door that hold the tyre. Isnt there an option of installing it on the middle doors?

I spoke to my ICE guy, this is what he suggested:

Front - a pair of Pioneer 2way 1641 speakers - Rs. 2200
TS-G1641R


Rear - a pair of Pio 280 W 4 way 6982 speakers - Rs. 3200

I am not able to find this on the site however. I found this:
TS-D161S

What do you guys think?

they are ok But I would suggest to listen to other brands also like JBL, Alpine, RF...

Rear 3way JBL GB 0937 - Rs.3500

The sad thing is that I am not able to find the speakers on the site. Can someone please help?

@Proxima: did you measure the size of the existing speakers? Both these speakers are 160mm speakers, wonder whether they will fit in the existing locations without modification

Do you drive or are you driven? If you drive, a better option would be to put components in front (slightly higher cost, but not that much) and 2-way coaxials in the rear doors.

And, better to listen before buying. Catalog specs don't convey the actual sound. You have a lot of choice in your price range: Blaupunkt, Alpine, JBL, Boston, Pio ...

Simply because these speakers dont exist. Maybe he means GTO527 (5.25" 2 way) or GTO637(6" 3 way)
For the rear I am almost sure it's GTO937. No 6X9 sells more than that now in India.

IMHO the 4 door locations would be better for the passengers front and rear. Putting boxes in the boot wouldn't give you any advantage sound-wise, even if you have 7 people on-board.

if you plan to use 4-speakers then get a pair of component in each door ....if you use a co-ax in the rear door then the high freq will be listed by the legs and feet.

With the coaxes tilted up the way they are in a Safari, one can hear the HF quite normally. The designers weren't that bad.

That was the reason I was concerned about mounting the 6/6.5" in the location where normally there is a 5.25". Since there is no space around the recessed & tilted mounting arrangement, there is no scope of pushing in a larger driver without modifications. If you manage to mount it by using an external mounting board, the tilt will make the bottom of the speaker jut out - and then you can't put the grill. Grrrrrrrrrrr.....

The Safari speaker is a 6" speaker, not 6.5". Not 5.25" either. It is an odd size. Why so? The speaker is built by a home hi-fi speaker manufacturer. Trust me, it is very unlike the other OEM speakers, it can even be amplified, and can comfortably handle 50 continuous watts.
