Default How good is the stock ICE on the Safari Dicor EX?

was that a dumb question?
sincerest apologies if it was.
but i would be grateful to the audio maestros here to shed some light (or db) please.
i think a blau HU is provided on the safari ex.single cd player.
what would i need to do to:
1.make it ipod nano compatible
2.dvd player and screen if needed later
3.get good clear crisp sound.not loud sound.just good country, pop, rock and hip hop variety.
4.the occasional dhaaru car-o-bar

do i exchange the HU or upgrade further?
thanks!

It's not a dumb question. I personally have no hands on experience with the entertainment system in the new Dicor, but I am told that the speakers are poopy.

If you are looking at an upgrade, you must first decide on a budget. We will then overshoot your budget

Dhaaru car-o-bar? lol.

I like the stock music system on the EX and plan to keep it that way.
You'd need an iPod adapter cable to connect to the HU - which I was told plugs into the back of the HU. That's all that is required.

I don't know about option 2.

The system is good enough for normal listening and I like the sound.

I own an ex, the stock ice is crappy, speakers aren't great. the sound gets distorted and bass is almost non-existent.

And i am no audiophile, and in most cases a bare-bones ice would suffice, but the ex ice does feel inadequate. Check for yourself.

Leave the HU as is, change everything else. As Sam said, set your budget then they'll help you exceed it here.

You have been told wrongly. They are amongst the best OE speakers in Indian cars.

Like I have mentioned many times earlier, there is a bass blocker on the path to all speakers, something that has not been rolled back ever since the tailgate sub vanished. Thats the reason for no bass. The speakers are built robustly enough to take juice from an amplifier also, distortion is due to clipping. Removing the bass blocker and changing the head unit and/ or adding a power amp will do the setup a world of good.

Yes....I have seen in couple of safari installs....the driver is quite good built....with metal frame and good magnet at the back....unlike plastic we see in honda speakers.......

and yes the bass blocker are fixed on the speaker itself......

Clipping is driving an amplifier (in this case, the amplifier in your head unit) with an input signal so large that the gain of the amplifier causes the output to extend beyond its power range. This happens commonly when you are playing a cd and turning up the volume beyond a certain point. It is audible from the speakers, hence they are named the cuplrit. Most would ask why head units or other amplifiers would allow this to happen at design stage. The answer is this that this comes in handy when using with a low level signal, like a low level recording or a radio station with feeble signal.

Bass blocker is a capacitor in series with the speaker that removes low frequency content from the signal supplied to it.

Simple and effective upgrade would be to add a 4 ch amp and a sub. Power front components and sub with the amp, and let the head unit run the rear speakers.

I just checked with some pals, the bass blocker on Safari speakers has finally been discontinued. This will mean that only the Safaris that are freshly rolling out will not have bass blockers in place, since this was implemented just over a month ago.

Awesome amp! One of the few really powerful subwoofer amps one could get in India in the olden days. My Sierra ran two of these for bass duty in approx '94-'95.

Edit: The 802 is not just a subwoofer amp. Its a full-range amp, but in those days, I really didnt have anything other than subs that I could drive with that kind of power in stereo.
