So you are admitting that Xplod speakers are pretty good at showing up the difference in quality of rips, right ? ![]()

| Sam even on a plain old set of PC speakers one can tell between FLAC/WAVPACK and LAME-APE MP3s. The difference between CD and FLAC/WAVPACK is not noticeable to me (atleast on my PC speakers) but I have not tried this on real speakers.

| Actually I have noticed a lot of people(well my friends at least) having major problems finding the difference between anything encoded at around 160-192 and CD quality. I found this out when I built my home stereo and wanted to demo to my friends...(A Nad 2 Channel Amp and Klipsch reference speakers ( A weird combination I know..)). So I figured I would ask my friends to try out using headphones.. At least that should show them right? Hah No luck again (Etymotic and Grado for those interested ;-)). @Mithun: The bottom line is this: In my opinion the vast majority do not notice the difference between MP3 and higher bitrate/lossless music. If you have heard your music over different setups and if you are happy with it, then it would be better to go with a basic system. That way, you have more to spend on buying more CDs ;-). Another thing is that Indian recordings are not very good. Heck I find myself trying hard to distinguish between 320kbps AAC and CD at times. Since Mithun's collection is predominantly Indian, I think he should not notice much difference. |

| BHPian | I'll be very basic...If you do spend around 25-30K on Ice, and given your choice of music and preference for treble, I'd risk my neck and say that almost ANYTHING you buy will give you a lot of joy. Try and go for a set of components up front and you'll be in treble heaven on every drive. Enjoy! |

| Distinguished - BHPian ![]() | Hey Kiran, there is a HUGE difference between a 320AAC (Pretty darn good, IMO) and 128MP3. If you told me someone had difficulty distinguishing between a 320AAC and WAV, i'd accept that.

At that time I also ripped a lossless version of the same CDs using wavpack 4.2 (with EAC). On my PC speakers I can hear a difference and I did a single blind test.
