There really must be something in the air today. First it was @Panky and his TS20 gifts to his BIL, and now @LBM talks about HIS system being gifted to him.

E bhai logo, where do you guys go sit and pray? If you are through I'll squat there so that I can pray for such boons! "Deyde baaaba, garib ki jholi mein ek Steg aur do-chaar DLS pheink de, baabaa!"

I remember the Arphi Aquarius. Massive speakers, really loud. Coupled with a Cosmic Lab 5000 they played so loud, i used to go crazy as a young boy.

I guess this is why Arphi now makes those hearing aids. As a solemn and responsible duty for those people that bought the aquarius 20 years ago.

I see you LBM. I guess even then, all you wanted was the low bass vibrations.

Because the way I see it in that picture, those headphone cups are on your cheeks, not your ears, lol.

P.S. You were really a very cute and good looking child. What happened??

ya when I was small I used to reduce the treble to minimum and the bass to the max to get out every drop of low end of the music from the 12 inch drivers..lol

I dont remember much the headphones we quite big for me at that time thay why they are not on my ear and rather resting on my cheeks.

time changes every thing even a cute and good looking child.

If my memory is right, they focus more on USD market than INR, may be that's the secret of their survival?

Sad to know about others who are either already dead or on the way, sinking. What else can happen if they are catering to people like me! Not that I am looking down upon them, but my impression is that none of them probably makes their own drivers, do they? I can't imagine any of them having required infrastructure/machinery to make high quality drivers and more than that measuring them. Their value addition might be limited to saving cost on enclosures, their import duty/shipping cost, distribution and advertising. Even then, they can't remain competitive unless selling in enough numbers.

That's a big challenge, next to impossible... I will not only have to find somebody who can gift it, but also make him pay for my favor of readily accepting it

I don't really have any such memories to be rekindled. I had only recently came across names that I mentioned, thanks to www. Never heard about others mentioned by Navin.

These are random numbers for me. Only thing that comes close to memories is 8065 which is similar to Intel's 8085/8086 processors (hope I was right!).

Fair enough! going by the same reasoning, LBM should also be punished by making him sell such aids to people who have had a demo of his ICE... at least to those captivated behind child locks!!

The numbers were for Der Alte. They are model numbers of a speaker manufacturer. I'll name this after Der Alte says "UNCLE".

Santosh, many of these guys did make drivers in India.

Yeah, but I just mentioned whatever those numbers reminded me of!

Then I must ask, how did you audio lover's like them? How would you rate them, say on a scale of 10, where 10 is the best ones that you have experienced?

we were all young and excited then. A lot of what sounded good then wont past muster today. in the 70s I was part of the "wall of sound" theorists.

I don't think you are any less excited even today!

Humm... that is what I wanted to know. There are so many nameless local drivers out there in the mass market, but it can't be their cup of tea to get into audiophile league (or even close enough). And it simply can't work out if all of them were to be imported! Though all the better known Indian brands that I checked out rely on some MNC source or the other for drivers.

Did you mean arrays with multiple speakers?

(Sorry, I had somehow missed the original post)
Huh? "UNCLE" only? I don't mind saying GRANDFATHER, CAESER, whatever, as long as you don't ask me to remember model numbers.

Wild guess(es): Could be Phillips (India, Poona; but their part numbers were longer), Bolton, Luxco (nah, I have never seen their woofers), Sonodyne, Ahuja (not known to many), ...???. Doesn't look like something available in Lajpatrai Market - one never asks for model numbers there anyhow.

The numbers correspond to:
- 12" woofer
- 10" woofer / full range
- 8" full / woofer
- 5" mid-range
- 2" dome mid/tweeter
- 1" dome tweeters, 2 varieties

Why did you put ALL in one system, UNCLE?
