All brands are good in their own way, Sony products are extremely good vfm, you get what you pay for.

I would take Pioneer to be most sold..not Sony.

Hey I build a huge speaker. 5 way. 3 amps.

1 200W amp for the 12" and 10". 1 60W amp for the 8" and 5" and one 8W amp for the 2" and 2 1" tweeters.

Well I managed to get a pair of each speaker Philips makes as samples. Then I DIYed the pre and power amps and a electronic crossover.

The speakers were huge. 60" tall. 15" wide. 16" deep. Primary soruces were a Dual belt drivven turntable and a Sony TCK 1A (first front loading deck made by Sony) that I later modifed beyond recognition.

I was strictly talking about amplifiers in that sentence of higher volumes.
If thats what you were talking about too, i probably don't know enough, sorry.

Either ways, Sony offers great value in its products and would not be a bad benchmark for any 'new' audio company.

Sony is average but not good. But they sell quite a quantity as they have good reputations in people minds. If one is shown a comparison I think He will never go for sony.

But the better amps come at a higher price.
Any reliable 4 channel amp that you know of that sells at 3,400 - 3,600 in grey?
Closest to that range i was told of a Kenwood 4 ch amp at 4,500 grey.

cheapest pioneer 4 ch amp is for 6k that is 6200. and when compared to sony it is quite good.

And, that is 80% more expensive than the cheapest Sony 4 channel amp at 3,400. So, nothing comes free, you get what you pay for.
Lets steer back to the topic at hand though, our resident cooldude1988765 is surely looking at better products than those we're discussing

Wow! Where are those boxes now?

The only ones that I have retained as a memento from late 70's is a pair of 8" dual-cones in teak-wood boxes. After a long "stereo" stint, they did duty as ersatz TV speakers for a long while - and would surprise most guests: "imported TV hai kya?" for a Bush, and later a Thomson, TV!

Now what did you manage to do to infuriate her *so* much? Should have been donated to "needy" engineering students!

I would have sat down on a fast-unto-death satyagraha (unless I was anyway fasting unto death after too many money-blowing experiments)

Sir, what about their amps? I have a pair of old sonodyne speakers lying unused and I plan on moving them into my room. Looking at options for the purposes of amplification. I came across an advert for norge amps and I hope to check it out when Im in mumbai next.

Though eventually due to my state of being perpetually broke I might have to get one of those amp "kits" that you and LBM have mentioned and try to build my own amp.
