Question Ikon ICE upgrade time for Nitrous! :)

Gurujis,
My Ikon is currently having the following setup:
Pioneer 4650 HU
JBL 507C -front doors
Pioneer 6990s - rear MDF "plank"
Pioneer 6100F amp driving the four speakers.
Wiring:Tsunami .

I drive most of the time. I listen to fast and slow numbers of AR Rehman,Harris Jeyraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja,etc..(PM me if U want to sample some of their songs.u definitely should.).So, i want my ICE to sound like a night club. I like the lows and the highs.

Queries:

1)I just got this installed today and im not satisfied basically with the bass.I thought driving components and 6x9s through an amp would give enough power to eliminate the need of a subwoofer.I dont know if im wrong.Or Am I?

HU needs replacement.I prefer Pioneers til I grow up to a german car when ill shift to Clarion. Over here, Pio 5950 costs 5800, 6950 costs 7300 and 7950UB costs 9300.
2)Id like to know what the 7950 offers (other than the USB) compared to the 6950.
3)Also, our chennai member 'greatmana2000' has a 6850 for sale.Is it good?

If I definitely need a subwoofer owing to my hunger for tight bass, im considering running a JBL 1202D subwoofer in an enclosure and due to budget constraints i would be bridging 2 of the channels in the 6100F and feed the subwoofer.
4)Which JBL subwoofer is good. I just checked out the GT4-12 and the 1202D visually?
5)Is there anything else that I should consider for my tight bass requirement?

The remaining two channels would feed the components while the HU will power the 6990s.
6)Is it ok to run the 6990s with the HU??

Im not satisfied with the punch of the 507s drivers.
7)How much of a difference in terms of bass would the 607C show? Will this conversion satisfy me?

PS: Did I say I love tight bass??

You definitely need a sub woofer for your Ikon night club. (BTW, When are we invited to this night club?) I have heard people suggest 60.4 or 75.4 models in JBL. never heard of the 1202D that you are talking about. Sam should give you the right reply for that one.

No, it wont, don't bother. Just add the sub & then decide.

I boght a JBL cs1204t subwoofer (tube) day before yesterday, I am using JBL 60.4 amp, its shaking my car. I think it may help you to setup your night club. (If u like to see the tube subs performance, I can meet u some where and show my setup. I am yet to tune the amp properly, even then I like the sound from it)

Hello Nitrous,

One thing at a time lol.

First, before you do ANYTHING else, make sure your speakers are phased correctly. I mean check positive and negative of amplifier, going to the wire, connected to the right terminals of the speaker. Just do this first.

If everything is fine, then go to step 2.

7950 has a USB jack and to the best of my knowledge, that's all it has more than the 6950. Personally I preferred the sound of the 6850, but remember, no USB upgrade.

When you bridge 2 channels of the 6100, you will have to de-amplify your rear speakers. It will run the sub, but the power will be limited and may not give you what you seek. Be prepared for this.
The GTO1202D Vs the GT4-12? Why don't you ask for the GTO1264 lim. ed.? That's the woofer to buy! Make sure you get a proper box for it, according to the specs.
If you;re not sure about the box, get a GTO1204B (Preboxed sealed sub)

The 507 is not designed to give you "punch" they are midranges. Leave them at high pass filter, cut off at 80hz and let them do their job. No need to upscale to 607.

I would recommend you to get 7950 because it is a good HU with almost every bling bling (including that motorised face) and some good menu features.

6850 is still preffered due to the fact that they sounded better to many than the newer 2007 range. It won't make much difference to you anyway. No USB upgrade possible in 68. It has a front aux in though. You can opt for it and save some good bucks.

As you are JBLfied, get that GTO1264 or GT4-12. Huh, C'mon! you will find some good people in Chennai who can make a nice box according to it's specs.

I got the 1202D for a sweeeet price, thats why.Let me check with my source for the 1264,Sam.And I have a 1cu.ft sealed box somewhere in an attic which i previously used. Im intending to use it.
Should I just fit the sub-woofer to the box or is there any damping or prepping the box that must be done?

Chetaa, considering 7950 vs 6950,im paying 2000 bucks more for the USB alone. Moreover, motorized faceplates are known to conk-off in our dusty conditions. Im still dilly-dallying with the 6950 vs 7950.

Dude, The thing about adding an amp is not just the 7-8k, another 3k for wiring and then installation. And not to forget the power requirements. Mono amp is for sure on the cards after a month or two.Im planning GTO 301.1.

If you want tights Bass then a tube is not what you are looking for. I always felt ported or sealed sub had tighter bass than a tube. Thats why I ditched the tube...

Sealed sub is the way to go if you want tight bass, though i am not sure of my friend's requirement.

Nitrous...had the same 5950 vs.6950 vs,7950. Heard all three, read about and bought 6950. Why:

1. 6950 and 5950 are almost similar except for 7 band Eq, preamp 4V, blue matrix display which is worth that extra 1.3 k
2. 7950 and 6950 only diff is USB. I am an iPod person so went with 6950 plus u can always buy the USB adapter (990 rs), fix it to 6950 and make it USB compliant...

Saved 2 and spent it on the iPod cable which worked to 1000 rs and remaining 1000 rs to the MDF planks for rear and front component speakers

Nitrous go for it (Ice upgrade I mean) and get to Kari on the 25th. Don't you want to show off your ICE even if it means you don't have anyone to car pool with?
