Do you remember the model number? I know the Maui MP36 costs about 9K but doesn't have Bluetooth. The Bahamas MP46 costs about 11K & Bluetooth is available provided you buy the interface. In both models iPod can be connected provided you buy the interface. In Razor's Alpine iPod can be connected if you just buy a cable.

Not too knowledgeable about these things. I think one needs interface cables for both iPod and BT for the Blau I was referring to - 'London'; Rs. 8900/-. You could check their site: Blaupunkt India - The advantage in your car.

Also call 32519026 for prices. This is the brand shop (opp Ice Skating Rink) number. They are closed on Mondays.

OT - This was a real ice skating rink once upon a time but the ice skating stopped in the late seventies as Calcutta was experiencing an acute electricity shortage. The hall has now been converted to a fair centre but the old name continues.
Kolkata has a new ice skating rink now. It is called Icicles & is in Clowntown. Join us with your family for our next TBHP meet & we'll show you around.

Can I request the Gurus to explain the difference in control available with the following?
  • HU with 2 preouts, no subout e.g my current Sony MP50
  • HU with 2 preouts & fixed subout e.g. Blau Maui MP36
  • HU with 2 preouts & variable subout e.g. Blau Bahamas MP46
I am particularly looking at 2 situations -
  • Components in front, sub in the rear, all connected to an amp, no rearfill speakers
  • Components in front, sub in the rear, all connected to an amp, rear fill speakers connected direcly to HU
Thanks in advance.

  • HU with 2 preouts, no subout . 2 sets of preout I presume..it means you have 2 set of preouts which provide full range capability
  • HU with 2 preouts & fixed subout . this means 3 sets of preouts, 2 sets of full range and one sub out
  • HU with 2 preouts & variable subout , similar to last but I think the rear can be switched to sub out or full range as needed
full range means it plays 20Hz-20KHz
Sub preout: usually from 50Hz to 200Hz or so, this is where the sub works.

Compos play well from 80Hz up and feed sub with 80Hz or 50Hz and below.

best to go for 3 preout ones ,ie, 2 full range and one sub preout

no it is 20-200hz or so. In fact it is really 0-200hz or so Idont think any HU today has a HPF as low as 20hz (such HPFs used to exist in home audio in the 70s and were called Rumble filters but that is a long OT story).

besides many HUs allow you to configure your rear pre outs as All pass or Low pass so you can connect a sub or fullrange. Such HU have 1 or 2 pair of pre outs (rear pre outs are configurable).

Not OT at all, Navin. It would be knowledge for others.

Such HPFs exist in car audio in the form of subsonic filters.

You can do it on any Alpine HU + H701 processor, and you can also do it on the Clarion HX-D2

I have never had an amp in my car so please forgive me if some the following questions are really stupid.
My HU has 2 preouts, no subout & the rear preout cannot be configured to low pass. I am putting in an amp which will drive components in front & a sub in the rear.
After the amp gains have been set, will I be able to adjust the volume of the front components/ sub individually from the HU? Do I need to use the fader control for this?

Yes you can use fader to control the subwoofer level.

Slightly OT :
How does the fader work in a HU which has only one pre-out ?
OR
If a fader works in a HU , does it indicate that it has 2 pre-outs ?
