between the 2 I'd take sealed. amp power (esp Class D is cheap) if I was single and did not have any use for the trunk I'd go back to quarter wavelength TL.

Hmmm... reminds me of the Skoda ad! No, no, I know what you mean.

Wonder how you intended to shoehorn one of these: Quarter Wavelength Loudspeaker Design Gallery

Der Alte, I had a built a TL into the trunk of my Contessa in 1988-9 (very simialr to the Pioneer TL shown). Yes I did not have a trunk anymore abd the rear seat was not very comfortable as i had stripped the back rest out of much of the padding but that was a small sacrifice at that time. Besides all the Contessa was used for was me and my tennis equipment. Sometimes I had a friend sit in the passenger seat but his/her knees would mess up the stereo soundstage. The front and rear were 3 way components using Polk 6500 woofers and LPG 2" dome mid and Vifa 3/4" dome tweeter. I could have used Vifa woofers but I used the Polk woofers are they had UV resistant butyl rubber surrounds.

Amplification was home made (4 x 35W rms and 1 x 200W rms) and source was an Alpine 7385 (discussed elsewhere on this forum) tape unit.

BTW that link has some of my favourite designs. Take the first design replace the 215 bicone with the 165-64 and a G2si or Fountek, replace the Eminence with Hawthorne's Augie...the JX92, the Fostex 167, all fantastic drivers.

I have been fantasizing / visualizing for a few weeks now. A young friend of mine wanted to MAKE for himself an HT on a budget, and I wanted to "corrupt" his mind to doing a QW design like that one (and the Linkwitz one).

Budget limitations dictate that we work with whatever is available in SP Lane in Bangalore - anything from Philips, Bolton, Dainty, whatever.

Amp would be a good old 2N3055-based 5-channel job - SKD.

What would you say?

I have a Ported box now. Like the boom it produces. For my kind of tastes, it suits well. But I heard some good sealed setups. Each and every different instrument has it's own unique bass in it. That was quiet different from my box. An upgrade may happen soon. That's it. Sealed for me too.
