Suggestion for Upgrade in OHC Vtec

Hi Guys,

Just got a set of Focal Polyglass series 165 V2 component speakers. Wanted your suggestions on the following ideas.

1> Replace existing Hertz from front doors with the Focals.
2> Replace Hertz coaxials with the front components on rear parcel tray.
3> Change 12" Hertz woofer fitted on shelf with another free air woofer(suggestions for make & model needed). I was told the existing woofer is more suitable with a sealed enclosure.
4> Add another amp. I want more power for the fronts and woofer what amp would you guys recommend(not too expensive)

Also am very keen on installing the Pioneer In-Dash DVD with the VDP1 so I might be looking at selling of the Alpine 9887 HU. Reasons for doing so
a> can play DVD Audio
b> All relevant vehicle info on display(most imp reason)
c> Can attach my a/d/s/ iDat-M D/A convertor to the DVD unit.

What do you guys think of the above idea.Plan to do all of this in the coming week itself.

before you upgrade your amps can you tell us what amps do you have currently? I would suggest using your current amp maybe in bridged mode for the front and add another amp for the rear components and sub.

If you are looking at free air why not the 15" IDQ. I think Gunbir has used this woofer in a free air install (behind the rear seat back rest).

Hi Guys,

Finally took the plunge and upgraded the speakers and woofer in my car. The new spec list is as follows.

Front comps: Illusion Audio Electra Series Comps EL 5.1

Rear 6x9: Ground Zero GZTF 69T

Subwoofer: Ground Zero GZTW 12MK2

They are a major improvement over my earlier setup. The sound is much more crisp and the bass tight. To be fair it could also be due to the fact that my earlier setup was carried forward from the Getz and maybe was not suited for the Honda City.

I have retained the earlier Audison amp. Some additional Noise Kill damping sheets were installed as well.

Installation carried out by Ajay himself and finally got the HU tuned as well. All in all a job well done. Will take some pics later of the install as was not present when it was carried out.

sir this is an upgrade or downgrade?
at least financially this must have cost you way less than the hertz setup!
glad to know you like the base model illusions over the mid range hertz.
i have the same setup in my car as well

Lol,

I dont judge products by the price. As far as I am concerned they sound better than what I had. In any case I did not have a big budget as all of that was eaten up by the engine mods.
