Rocky?

Oh, I thought high gains on the amplifier and those 'crack-thud's would cause trouble to the speakers. Anyway, good to know it doesn't. *unfeeling guilty about so many times*

If not a woofer, can something else be harmed?

Another similar crazy idea. Seeking your help. Sorry if my question sounds ameaturish because that is what I am when it comes to these things.

Do ye folks still remember the antique Pioneer KEH-P2035 (cassette player/FM HU)? Well I had that yanked along with Blaupunkt x4 speakers off of my M800 into the newer vehicle (I had no fund left to buy a 'new gen' ICE). Now I am wondering if I can plug a Panasonic discman (plays MP3 powered by 2 AA batteries) to the HU. I vaguely remember seeing the familiar white/red RCA input pair in the back panel of the HU but neither can I confirm it nor do I have the wiring diagram.

Also, the HU does not have an 'Aux' or similar input selector as far as I can see.

Can someone guide if this is workable or not? I am open to tweaking if suggested.

Cheers!

Two cheap ways of connecting:

1. Buy a cassette adapter, put cassette in the HU and plug the other socket into your discman.

2. Buy a FM modulator, plug it onto lighter socket and put another end in discman. Tune in some frequency (like 107.7) and hear the music.

In both of the above options, SQ would be horrible; but better than headphone.

panky12345, I wish to hear the MP3 output from the discman via the HU out the in-car speakers. Because the HU can't play discs, I was hoping I could set up a way to connect the discman and HU. Sorry if my earlier post confused you.

Still looking for ideas.

@Chirantanatanya, those RCAs are pre-amp output, meant to be connected to an external amp.

Your best bet would be hacking into the IP-bus, which normally connects to a CD changer. It has been done and discussed somewhere here - needs a cable.

LBM-bhai, kaise karte hain zarra bataiyega?

Thanks for hijacking my thread, chirantanaranya!!

Back to my question, I e-mailed Blaupunkt India and am awaiting their response as to the feasibility of this idea. (btw anyone on here that represents / works for / works with / sells Blaupunkt?)

Intention was certainly not to hijack your thread, vebmetal. Sorry if that appeared so to you.

I just thought you and I had sort of similar requirements so I tried to save a new thread.

I am off this thread re: my requirement.

Not sure if this is going to be useful, but I have been having problems with my setup that are detailed elsewhere. But as part of my diagnosis, I had connected my iPod directly to my amp (a JBL GTO 4060) and it did play very well.

Again I am not sure if this will cause a problem to my amp ( I think not), but here is what I did. I used a 3.5 mm to RCA adapter (like this). The sound was pretty good (in fact much much much better than what I am currently getting out of my HU). The gains were at 50%.

Basically, I think a JBL amp itself can be used.

I think the Gurus can answer if this is going to cause a problem or not.

^ yes please do answer whether one can do this 3.5mm to RCA convertor thing with any amp, thereby letting me use any amp for this setup and not just the Blaupunkt one (I thought that there would be some voltage issues or something).

In other news, I got a reply black from Blaupunkt and they said that this setup would work! And moreover, I was told that I would need to install an On/Off switch for the amp that can be "procured locally." - sounds sweet!! Will be paying the Blaupunkt showroom they referred to a visit.

From my experience I can tell you that you can use any amplifier and it will work fine. A 3.5mm to RCA cable that you use should be of very good quality, otherwise distortions will crop up.
