ok..... this is the part I lose what the hell you guys are talking about and come back to the point that for me it is a jugaad in the sense that I am not a professional or hobby electronic enthusiast. I tried my hand at soldering once and failed miserably. So I don't want to solder anything anywhere, or trust anyone else here to really do it.

What I was saying, anup, was that I don't want a 'home remedy' to fix this problem, but am comfortable using say a device that is manufactured by a reputable company to do what you describe (which btw I still do not understand!)

So could you describe what it is that you are saying in plain English and further, suggest a solution that a lay person can employ.

Veb, please. Just connect the headphone out to the amplifier using a good cable, it will work well.

So tell me. 'cause I'm a firm believer in Pink Floyd!
OK, no kidding. I know you don't mean the band.
What does K.I.S.S. stand for...??

Here you go, from wikipedia .

Quote:
The term KISS is an acronym of the phrase "Keep It Simple, Stupid", and the KISS principle states that design simplicity should be a key goal and unnecessary complexity avoided. It serves as a useful and frequent verbal exhortation (or even dedicated policy) in software development, animation, engineering, and in strategic planning (especially military operations). Other versions of the phrase include "Keep It Simple & Stupid" (most recently used in west-European literature), "Keep It Sweet & Simple," "Keep It Short & Simple," "Keep it Simple, Sweetheart," and "Keep it Simple, Sherlock," and the obvious scatological variation.

Also, the blaupunkt installer had said that the higher the pre-out voltage of the audio device, the better the sound I would get. He said ideally it should be upwards of 2V.
Your Blau dealer is right. The higher the Signal level you can derive from your MP3 player the less noisy it will be. If your signal level is low (200-300mv) range your cable runs will have to be well planned and short (think 1.5m). With higher signal levels your install is less suseptible.

In case your MP3 player does not have a line out but has only the headphones out, you might need to 'load' your output with an appropriate resistor (8 ohms or 32 ohms, 1/2 W) to achieve best performance.
Sorry for not being available. Ipods have a line out only one needs an adapter to convert this to a standard EP female socket.

Ipods have a line out. Some time back I connected my nephew's ipod via a cheap YES dock to his car stereo.

I've seen 'phones with impedances as high as 2000 ohms.

Correction: I have opened up and messed with 'phones with impedances as high as 2k :-)! Sennheisser HD 414 I think they were. Senn's 424 were also 2k.

No Navin, certainly not the HD414s. I think they were 32 or 52; can't remember.

I have the Creative Zen Xtra - it's a really old player unfortunately, and it's due for an upgrade. I don't really like any player in the market right now though - they just aren't innovating much. (But I plan to check out the new Zune 2s online today).

So here's what the final setup is looking like. I plan on buying everything with B&W.

Front components: Hertz DSK165
Speaker cabling: Connection Audison
Amp: Blaupunkt GTA 2 Special MK II (2 Channels)
Amp Cabling: Tsunami

Final thoughts / suggestions / price recommendations?

later versions of the 414 were 52 ohms (boy you remember well) but the earlier versions were 2k. we used to make small amps out of BD139/140 to drive them.

I spend my holidays with my son.

Ama Mathur sahab, what's with germaniums and silicons? That also in relation to your pitashri?

And where did you expect @veb to find 8 or 32ohm resistors? Had he gone for it, he would have landed up using 3 or 5 resistors just to get those values.

There must be something in the air today - you are sending everyone on 'jangli batakh ke peechhey daud's.
