Default Compatible CD-Changer with Alpine 9830

Gurus,

I am looking at buying a CD-Changer which is compatible with the Alpine 9830. What are the available options?

Does anyone have a used changer lying around?

I have a Pioneer 12 CD Changer installed in my M800. The changer (and the car) is sparingly used and is in excellent working condition. Got it installed in 2003 or so. I paid around 14K for it. I have the operations / installation manual lying around if you need that as well.

Would like to sell the changer as I use the car only when i visit home in blore for a day or two. Let me know what is the best price you can offer for it.

I have a Pio changer lying at home too. But I am pretty sure this one wouldn't be a direct plug and play.

One of my friends had a Blaupunkt CD changer for sale. Not sure if its still available. Will check and get back if it is available and it compatible with Alpine 9830.

I doubt if the Blau changer will be compatible. Generally Alpines will only accept Alpine changers. If you ask around in shops, you might be able to snag a good second-hand one, that somebody who upgraded to an MP3 HU left for sale.

Only Alpine changers work with Alpine HU's unless you want to use an FM transmitter which will screw the quality. Also Alpine changers are hard to find in the used market. Sam also had a hard time finding one for his girlfriend's car last year.

@ MF,
None of my business but do you seriously need that Changer ?
WIth MP3, you can stuff lotsa music in a disc and you can always keep a cd case handy ?
Changing CDs isnt all that difficult you see.
Think about it

Kiran,
First, Alpine HUs go best with the Alpine CD changers only using the Ai-Net bus.

There are hacks available to cross play other brand CD changers at the loss of some features as the bus will vary.

With today's technology, they are a waste unless you are Richie Rich. (I dont know you - may be you are)

Very valid point Amey.
MF,... unless you are looking for something like the Alpine CHA-S634 that can stack 6 MP3 CDs a CD changer does not make sense.

'am not too literate on car audio, but would say that you can buy a large iPOD, use that KCA-something adapter that speeds up search on an iPOD and get going with hours and hours and gigabytes of music. The Alpine's MX feature does a great compensation job for the compression loss.

All my humble opinion after my recent upgrade. No distractions or discouragement

Actually Anand's suggestion for the I-pod is a much better option. You can rip CD's using lossless format (ask Navin how) and then copy them to the I-pod. You get better VFM that way since Alpine changers are quite expensive.

I am quite convinced with the IPod part if they play lossless. Not that I have everything in 320kbps but still I would love to listen to 320 kbps quality audio.

Ok CD changer plan looks out but if someone is interested I have found one in Pune which is an Alpine 6 CD changer and there is an Alpine 9853 along with it too. What hardware do I need to add an IPod to my car? The KCA420i is one I believe.

Ask Navin he plays lossless. Or search for his posts.

Sir you will need this

Alpine KCA-420i

and this

PAC iPod® Adapter for Alpine

if you wanna control the IPOD from the HU...

BUT

If you use this you can add a AUX input to the HU and can attach any mp3 to the HU and this adapter will cost you just 1k.

Alpine KCA-121B Auxiliary Input Adapter

The Harmon Kardon Drive+Play is one too. With the KCA420i you control the ipod thru the HU unlike the HK.

Gautam, with an HK Drive+Play I don't need a KCA420i, is it?
