hey my bro just went in for a 19k setup on his fiesta..
after lots of tbhp advice..
Blaupunkt Head unit with usb(i think san marino)
and 4 JBL GTO series 5x7 all round, standard fittment, no cutting..
nice setup although i'm of the opinion that probably components up front would give good clarity..
not very happy with the clarity, altho the bass sounds quite decent.
lets see what the gurus have to say...

Do you already have an HU & speakers in your Fiesta? If so:

- What is it that you are missing when you listen to music in the current system? Bass? High notes? Unclear vocals? Not loud enough for your needs?
- What is the budget that you have set for yourself (in this forum sky is the limit, if at all)?
- What additional features do you want (USB, iPod, Bluetooth etc.)?

Go step by step:
1. First check what is it that it lacks. Don't discard the stock HU yet - concentrate on what you are missing. Listen to systems in other Fiestas which have replaced stock system with other brands

2. Change speakers appropriately to get what you want (outside of deep bass). Speakers vary by brand and model - you must listen to at least 2 brands before selecting what you like (Ovals like what @ronk's brother has have definitely more bass than round speakers of the same cost)

3. If dissatisfied with the stock HU, change the HU. You can fit a 1DIN HU (like the Alpine you saw) in the 2DIN slot (what you seem to have) - the balance space can be a pocket or a blank plate. You can also think of a 2DIN HU, especially with a large LCD for video, but those are costlier than corresponding 1DIN HUs.

4. If you want more loudness than the stock HU gives, add an amp for the front and rear speakers

5. If still not satisfied with the low bass, add a subwoofer with an amp

The cheapest Alpines cost about 9K (9846 or 9870) that leaves you 10K for the speakers. Also for 9K the Pio 7950 offers you many more features. I have not compared the 9846 ot 9870 in sound quality to the 7950 but others rate teh Alpines to have better SQ. So if it is SQ you are looking for the Alpines are a good bet.

Remember though with the 7950 you get stuff like 3 pairs of pre outs, the 9846 gives you only one.

Navin, how is the Alpine 9853 in terms of SQ and other functionalities? There is a used unit lying here with one of the dealers with a CD-Changer. Yogi if Navin approves, would you be interested?

There was one of these 985x Alpines which had a problem with CD's getting stuck in the transport. Is this the same unit?

Hey Yogi, I would recommend the R series component speakers from Alpine. Great SQ with clear notes and tight bass. A pair would cost you around 12K though. So you put these in front and have a pair of 690A's (6x9 coax 2 way) which cost around 4.5K in the rear. There another model of 6x9 coax which is 3 way and has better SQ, but don't know which exactly.

Oops sorry.

20K without the HU

Sub: 4K (Pio 12")
Amp: 7K (Pio 6200 or Blau GT4)
Front and rear coax: 9K (JBL CS or Blau Thx/Thc components/coax combo you know the drill).

OR

Amp: 7K (same as above)
Speakers: 14K (Infinity, Alpine type R, Hertz, or Illusion components and coax combo)

THis is a bit over budget but it is the next step up.

HU: Se if you can afford the 9887. It has TA which is really useful if you intend to have a subwoofer.

My Fiesta setup is as follows:

HU - Pioneer 6950 -> 7500/-
Kicker Co-axials Front & Rear ->12500/-

All in grey market. Prices are approx bcos I dont remember the exact. But all came together for 20K about 6 months back.

They sound output is very good & not too boomy. I set the bass settings very low.

I would have preferred the Alpine HU for crisper sound but after listening to the Pioneer & the good features it offered for the price it was irresistible.
