Default Cassette players

Hi,
I have a Swift with a Pioneer 2950 HU & 4 entry level sony speakers.
Is it possible to fit a cassette tape player also into this? Are are cassette
players aavailable at all in the market nowadays? How much will a decent
one cost with/without B & W.
Asking because wife has 100's of cassette other than CD's. Or is there
any other hack/solution?

Yea... u can add a cassette player. The swift has a 2din slot rite? so the first one is occupied by the 2950, and the second one can accomodate the cassette player. U'll have to install a relay/switch(nt sure what its called) so tha only one of them will work at a time! Any good installer will be able to do this!

Yeah, i think cassette players are available still. Though they are rare.

P.S: mods, i think this thread is in the wrong place, please move it to the appropriate thread.

Oh, I don't know about any good installer being able to connect 2 HU's to the same set of speakers.

I would not recommend connecting the same speaker to the outputs of both HU's and making sure that only one runs at a time.

I would rather recommend speaker switching.

In the case of most Car HU's even the speaker ground is a floating ground, so that will need to be switched.
Ergo each speaker will need a 12V DPDT relay - aka 2 Pole 2 Way.
While the speaker can be connected to the pole, one HU output to one way and the other HU output to the other.

4 such relays will operate 4 speakers, with a common 12V switch that clicks all 4 relays from NC to contact. Switch it on and HU 1 operates. Switch it off, it returns to NC and HU2 operates. Simple. lol.

As far as I know(and got the similar installation in my car) you don't need to use relays and all. If you have a auxillary-in in your CD HU then you can easily connect the pre-amp output of your cassette player to the Aux-in.So the cassette o/p will go into the CD player as in signal and the CD player will run the speakers as normal. But I've no idea about the particular HU that you have will have that Aux-in option.May be the experts will be able to help.

Kaushik

Isn't there anyway to connect the cassette player to the AUX-IN of the 2950 ?

Then all the speakers would be connected only to the 2950.

Edit: Kaushik, saw your post after posting mine . The 2950 specs say that it has an aux-in.

If you have a cassette player with a line out and a CD player with an Aux in, you won't need any relays, that is correct.

A standard "Stereo EP to 2 RCA" cable. Available quite freely and quite inexpensive.

Rightly said Sam,
I had done the setup in my Zen.
Connect the lineout to Aux in in the CD player. When ever you wanna play cassette , play it through Auxiliary
That's it

Not able to activate the Aux in my Pioneer 2950.
The manual says pressing the SRC button should get you to Aux
but I only see the Tuner & the CD Player when I press SRC.
THe manual also says pressing Fn will let you enable or disable Aux -
but again I don't see Aux as an option at all when I press Fn.

Wondering now if the installer sold me a Pio 1950 (which doesn't have
an AUX in) with the 2950 faceplate!!!

Ok - got this working. The Pioneer manual wasn't very clear. I had to first
turn off the players before I could enable the AUX. I took the car to
the installer & he did it in a minute. Now everything's working fine.

One more question - is there a way to power a walkman off the
car cigarette lighter plug.

Yes absolutely. You get cigarette lighter adaptors, depending on the make and the voltage requirement of your walkman.

I found a cigarette lighter adaptor for Rs. 80. but it says output 4.5 V.
The walkman input says 3V - is that a problem - I am don't want to plug
in the walkman & see it go bust.
