Default Music system for Maruti 800

I have planned to go for a music system for my Maruthi 800 car.
My budget is around 17K.

Could you suggest me a decent audio setup for my car for the given budget.

I enquired about the sony setup. It costs around 16K, which includes
1.sony CDX-GT460U CD/MP3 player - 5.5k
2.Sony 4 Channel Amplifier - 4k
3.Sony 420 watt rear speaker -2.5k
3.Sony 130 watt front speaker - 1k
4.Sony subwoofer 1000Watts - 2.5k
5.Wiring + Accessories - 1k

Please give me your suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Hemanth.

whats this obsession with sony , in ice sony makes the worst kind. stick to pioneer for headunit and jbl for speakers. if you also want the amplifier go for either jbl or blau if on a budget. for subwoofer go for either jbl or infinity. if u are ok to buy without B/W you will save lot of money but will still be more than 17k.

HU: Pioneer 3950/Comparable JVC: 5K
Amp: Blaupunkt GTA4 Special: 6K
Front spkr: JBL GTO527: 3.5K (Or GTx series Blau 5.25" coax for 3K or so)
Rear spkr: JBL GTO527: 3.5K (Or GTx series Blau 5.25" coax for 3K or so)
Pio304: 3.5K
Box for sub: 1K
Wiring, etc: 2K

That's about 22K. But you'll get something that sounds at least twice as better as an all-Sony setup. And you won't need to change the HU/pick-up Lens in a year or so.

For an M800, you can skip the sub and get a 6x9 in the back and amp it for reasonable bass: the JBL GTO937 @4K is pretty good. Or there's the new GT5 series 6x9 that should be available soon for 3K or so.

Even a 10" sub will be fine in an M800.

Listen to Sony by all means *cringe*. Please also listen to the competition before you take a decision

Hi Hemanth!

I have an 800 in which I have a very basic setup. I have thought of upgrading it and based on my experience, I can give you a few inputs:

1. The door panels in the front need to be modified to fit some speakers in them. If you have the DX version, the magazine holders will have to be removed. I am planning to get that modification to fit a pair of GTO507s. I hate tweeters on the dash and there is no scope for tweeters on the A-pillar, so co-axials are better if you want minimal modification.

2. The boot space in an 800 is very minimal. If you put an amplifier and a sub, the boot will lose about 50% of the space. I am therefore ruling out co-axials on a tray (I have a pair of 6X9s lying with me, GTO937s). Instead, I am planning to modify the rear doors and putting a pair of 637s on the doors. Alternatively, I can fit those 937s on the boot door, which I wouldn't want to.

3. The sub may prove to be overkill for that small car. Things will definitely start rattling since the car has poor interiors and build.

Having said this, I still want to put a 4-channel amplifier and a sub in it. My suggestion for your budget would be to get a 4-channel amplifier (GT5 or Blau) and a pair of good 6X9s, like the 937s. Drive the front co-axials or components and the 6X9s off the amplifier and you'll be fine.

The reason why I say I still want to do it is because I have a decent setup in my Baleno and now I can't live with some ICE that has no sub.

Besides, my 800 is old and I can modify the door panels without thinking too much. The 800 is my way of tackling Bangalore traffic. I use that car to dodge around and park at will, so I really have no concern for boot space.

If any of the above factors bothers you, think about it.

Thank you very much for all your valuable suggestions.
So finally I have dropped the idea for going for a sub(as suggested by rocksterraghu, due to rattling & overkill )
I have shortlisted the following:
HU: Pioneer DEH 3950 - 5K
Front spkr: JBL GTO527: 3.5K
Rear Spkrs: JBL GTO937 - 4k
Amp: Blaupunkt GTA4 Special: 6K

Where can I get the front door panel modified for accomodating the front speakers(JBL GTO527).
Could you suggest any good place for buying the above components.

Thanks,
Hemanth.

Hemanth, go in for components instead of coaxials in the front. I guess you can get GTO507 for around 4k in the grey market in Bangalore.

Also, you can consider a 8" sub under the seat, I have done this in my M800 and it is more than adequate. I am not sure if you have seen my thread about the same.

replace the GTO series with GT5 series and your budget will come under 20K.

like said above the GT5 series is a bit cheaper. A 5" coax would require a spacer ring for the door.

I talked about the rattling since I have seen it in my car. However, the interiors of newer models of 800 don't rattle that much. I have a '97 model, so obviously, it does
I've seen my friend's 2003 model handling it better.

And about the location of the front speakers, you can get the door panels modified where you'd have kick-panels in other cars. If you get it any closer to the seat, the seats would muffle the sound since the doors are small and half the speaker would be covered by the seat, you know what I mean. Also, there would be trouble in tackling the window glasses touching and obstructing.

You'd have to open up the doors to verify what would be the best location. In addition, I think you'll need to mount them on custom spacer rings on the door.

Fellas, correct me where I'm wrong.

Yes, it is possible to fit 5.25" speakers on the doors, with a spacer ring. It does not touch the glass or interefere with the mechanism. The door panels need to be cut a little.

I have got this done for my M800 (of course, who else but Anwar did it for me!) The tweeters are mounted on the dash.

I am pretty satisfied with the setup and recommend this.

gopz, that is the exact location I was talking about. You've got a very neat install done (Anwar, so obviously). I was trying to tell Hemanth that if he moves any closer to the magazine holder or a little higher, the glass starts interfering.

The picture should be very helpful.

You shouldnt be asking this question if you are a BHPian!!!

Search for "Anwar", "Auto Fusion", "Thouqeer" etc and you will be amazed to know that there is no match to him in Bangalore!

Check out a sample:
