| hey people, after a long long session of brain storming and test drives i've just booked a laura dsg. this was partly because my baby sister has a lot of say in the family and she simply loves the laura.so over-priced or not laura's the one. so i am planning to change the ice setup. i want a SQ setup. the laura takes in a 3 way setup in the front and real doors. fronts getting 6.5" woofer,3" mid and 1"tweeter likeways for the rear with the diff being a 5.25" woofer. now the route i am planning might be a bit different. this is what i have in mind. 1.connect the 4 woofers seperately to a 4 channel amp in with a low pass filter.to deliver the lows say 100-200hz 2.connect the four 3" mids and tweeters to another 4 channel amp in an above 200hz filter through a crossover. 3.use a mono sub amp to power a small 8" sub to deliver tight crist bass without sounding loud. won't be hearing very very loud. just occasionally turning it up for my fav songs. mostly i like vocals.with tight base. i don't like brightness.tend to give me a pain in the ear. now i have selected hertz seperate components to use in the install. hv 165L hv 130 hL 70 ht 25 hx 200 in a tuned for tight bass box or if budget permits a ML 2500.1 now are there crossovers available seperately or are the in built on the amps to cover the different frequencies sub: 30-100hz woofers: 100-200hz mids & tweeters:200-22khz i will be keeping the stock HU so i would be needing an amp with high level inputs. maybe the audison Lrx series.-4.1k what do you say about this plan. how would the system sound if i use a 2 way 5.25" component in the rear speakers. this way i could save on one amp too. any and all suggestions are very much welcome as i am a novice at this and have only superficial knowledge prices of the above components would be essential as they will be the deciding factor. looking forward to inputs from all ICE enthusiasts and gurus. |

| Congratulations Navpreet for your Laura. And regarding the ICE you have listed quite an elaborate setup. The Hertz components you have selected are straight fit in Laura stock locations. I believe DSG comes only in L&K trim which has got 3 -Way in the front (6.5") and rear (5.25"). If you intend to keep your stock unit. Then I would recommend that you go for the passive sets HSK 163 (HT 25 + HL 70 + HV165L) for the front and with HV130 for the rear. If you drive on your own you can go for cheaper option of 2-Way HSK 130 in the rear doors. This way you will save a lot of money on the amplification as you need only one 4 channel amplifer. The way you have mentioned it is expensive (more amplifiers, more cables) and does not offer you any advantage over the passive setup. You need multiple channels of amplification with mandatory bandpass filter for midrange driver. The cheapest option will be 2 X LRx 6.9's, one for the front stage and the other for rear. Hence stick to passives powered by 4 channel amplifer like LRx 4.1K For subwoofer section I would recommend minimum 12" Subwoofer running off an LRx 1.1K or LRx 2.9 (Bridged) depending upon subwoofer choice and coil configuration. For subwoofer level control you need Audison VCRA. All LRx amplifiers have speaker level inputs and preamp outputs.

| well just went through the prices in some uk sites.everything i planned has gone out of the door. it seems that it'll be better if i use a passive 3 way in the front (HT 25 + HL 70 + HV165L) and a 2 way rear (HSK 130) that way one 4 channel can power in this order: front channels:HT25+HL 70+HV165L with a passive crossover rear channels: hsk 130 and the sub can be powered via a mono amp. i think this is just what autophile just said in the above post and i just rephrased it. just checked out the prices of the lrx series in a uk site.man! they're so damn expensive. can you help me out with some other high level input amplifier.something in the range of 20k for the 4 channel and 20k for the mono. suddenly the GTO 75.4 is coming again and again in my mind.too bad its gone. i haven't heard that amp. if the 75.4 can be comparable to a 20k four channel then let me know where can i get a left over.preferably around delhi. i'm looking to a budget of approx 80k +- a little bit. help me out guys. |

| BHPian | hi, you have made an excellent choice of getting the hertz hi-energy components and audison amps. in 80k i would suggest you get the 3ways for fronts and 2 ways for the rear. get the audison srx amplifier. a mono with a 4 channel or a 5ch amp. and get a 12" sub as an 8" will be too small for the laura. a 12" in a sealed enclosure will be nice and tight. please keep a budget for wiring and install. connection audison are good quality wires. do listen to other brands before deciding. cheers clip |

| other brands is exactly what i am thinking. the Lrx series seems to be out of my budget. how is infinity reference series compared to the sxr of audison. the prices seem to be reasonable. especially the mono ref611a and the ref7541 or the ref475a also the infinity kappa 1.7cs seems to be a good 3 way. if anyone knows the exact price of the same please let me know. |

| Oh my dear dear old friend Navpreet. Congratulations for the Laura DSG. Glad you picked that car over Skoda RS. I'm happy sense prevailed and you said a Firm NO to the "Slush Engine". Anyways. Very good choice of equipment. I'm impressed with your homework, as always. Enjoy the stock Laura ICE for a little while till you do your homework well. Keep off your money spending untill you do a well enough demo of your selected brands and have compared them well to the Stock ICE in laura. (which is pretty good anyways) You can call me anytime you want and eat my head for discussion on ICE, just like I eat yours for discussion on superbikes. haha. | alright gunbir i had thought that that 1.7cs uses a 3" mid. if its a 4" then its out of the equation then. well rajat thats what i'm planning. run the car stock till december-jan starting. make a trip to delhi in jan first week or so and get some work done on it. ![]() i'll have a discussion with you soon enough. gunbir i was actually planning to get the install done from you in delhi.i know how shoddy the work is in dehradun.i would never get it done here. i'm in the planning stages right now.setting the budget for different things like performance mods,ICE and other mods. can you suggest any other SQ combo which will stay in this budget and be a substancial upgrade on the stock ice. |

Go for a multichannel amp as that will help conserve space and cabling. There are many amps that have high level inputs now. It would help us to know your listening preferences like how much bass you like etc.

| well i don't like too much bass . love hearing good music with vocals.where every thing is in perfect coordination. i haven't heard too many speaker systems but to give you an example i love the bose wave radio.it have perfect everything an less of treble. so cut it short i like bass which supports the music and does not over ride it.and i don't like treble at all.gives me a big headache. and what ever bass is there should be tight and punchy.not fluffly.it should be there in extremely short bursts. that is why i was initially looking for small 8" sub which would run in coordination with the rest of the music and not over power the music with its bass. bass should be there where its originally meant to be. i have seen and owned systems which put bass even in the non bass songs. and i don't like that. thats a long detail.hehe. |
