Do avoid Soundstream speakers. They sound horrible. Kicker is a bit better but not by much.

Consider options from JBL, Alpine, Infinity etc. and you shall be fine.

a good 4ch. amp will take half that budget for the remaining 7-8K you will be limited to JBL's CS series (now discontinued). I am not sure if JBL new Gt5 series has an altrenate.

then again first see which of these amps you can get cheapest
Blau GT4
Kenwood 8401
JBL Gt5
Pioneer 6300
all 4 are good 4 ch. amps.
money saved can be spent towards better speakers.

yea. but would 6.5" comps. fit in an esteem?? front speakers are under the dash in this baby, the tweeters would have to be mounted on top of the dash, the crossovers can be put under as well..
but i think 6.5" wont fit, guessing 5.25" would, still dunno...

need advice, anyone?

Yup 6.5" components do fit in an Esteem with some alterations to the door pad. Here's how:

Esteem ICE'D work begins. (Esteem ICEd...Work begins..)

aiyeee!!... thats cool bro..
but fitting comps. in them doors, then that would need damping too.. budget hike then.
plus id lose them door pockets as well.. haha.. those really don't matter.
cant i 6.5's under the dash or 5.25s??

You'll need equal or more amount of damping if you plonk a 5.25" or 6" (somehow) in the dash. You will is lose about 20% of map pocket space and a little bit of damping. Not a bad mod if you ask me. Go for it if you have the heart to cut.

Default 1996 esteem advice

Need advice and product recommendations for 1996 Esteem.

My father-in-laws esteem needs a new basic sound system:

Budget: As cheap as possible (and I really mean cheap as money saved would probably be spent on me in a drinking session).

I am only going to recommend to him branded products, no desi stuff.

Headunit: He needs a basic HU. If possible I want to keep his future options open with an Aux-in socket. Nothing fancy at all.
Pioneer 2090? What are the grey market price in Mumbai?

Speakers: Help? What are the stock speaker sizes? I remember that he has old Pioneer 6x9's on the rear shelf. I was thinking of suggesting to him some basic JBL GT5 speakers. What will fit?

Can I please get recommendations with PRICES.

Edit: Please suggest as cheap as possible as there is a very good chance the car would get sold off later this year.

Thanks

Raja
